Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • outstanding! - 2006 Honda Civic

I originally looked at this vehicle because of the ever rising gas prices. After test driving one I fell in love with it. What is better than high gas mileage, futuristic styling, solid reliability, comfortable and fun to drive?

I have 26000 miles so far and no problems. 2 recalls so far. Tire noise was bad when new, but after 25000 miles it became unbearable. new tires put it back to when new. I still cant hear the engine over the tire noise on the highway. The car is fun to drive if you wear earplugs. performance is ok for the category of this car.

I just bought this car and I love it! Its small, sporty, and fun to drive. However, the gas mileage on the sticker is not what I have been getting around town. I actually get between 18-20 mpg around town. This may be attributed to the use of the airco as I live in Tucson AZ and it is 100 degrees everyday!

  • Its just amazing!! - 2000 Honda Civic

I sold my 97 Accord EX coupe due to its weight, and bulkiness, but the fuel economy and reliablilty always amazed me. I chose the 2000 Civic Si over the 05 Mazda3, 03 Civic Si, 05 Corolla XRS, Cobalt, RSX-s, Sentra SE-R V, and the 04 Lancer evo (not enough $$). After owning it for over a year, ive noticed how much of a gas saver this car can be if one is easy with the pedals. Ive actually documented 30city/34hwy mpg several times after a tuneup was done. Its also very easy and inexpensive to maintain. So far I have had no problems at all. Im literally in love with this car! I highly recommend a (92-present year) civic (any model) for a High School/College student or a first time buyer!

  • I Love This Car! - 2007 Honda Civic

I love this little car. It is super easy to maneuver and so fun to drive. My only complaint is that it is a little underpowered for highway driving. There is plenty of power for city driving however. But that is the sacrifice you make when you buy the hybrid. But I do get 52mpg on the highway! City driving is more around 40 to 41mpg. Arlington in quite the hilly county so I am not surprised the actual mileage in city is not higher. I also love this car because at 63 the car is quite accomodating but I do have to have my seat all the way back. That means that the people sitting behind me are more than a tad cramped. Ergonomics are great and everything is within reach.

  • Finally flare with 4 doors! - 2007 Honda Civic

What a fantastic car! Other cars I was considering were the, SI coupe, Eclipse, GTI, and Cobalt SS. Dollar for dollar nothing else in the market offers the same good looks, features and performance as this car. I drove all of them and came back to this one. Personally I think the sedan looks even better than the SI coupe. I have a 7 month old daughter and have car seats in my future for the next 8 years so that made the choice even easier. Simply one of the best values that can be had for around $21K. Owned the car for only two days so long term I cannot comment, but so far, its been great!

Hondas run forever! The gas is great and you pay less for more!!

I fell in love with this car the first time I ran it up through the gears: the steering is tight, the gear pattern is tight, the suspension is tight and feels right with the rest of it. Sporty feel. Gas mileage is better than stated: were getting 27-28 city, 32-35 highway. And those highway miles are at well over the speed limit. Plenty of power for passing up-hill. Stable at speed and doesnt get blown around by trucks.

  • A Happy Little Car - 2004 Honda Civic

Traded in Cadillac STS for this little jewel. A Cadillac it is not, but the steering is precise and it corners beautifully and I actually prefer the Civics firm ride. Fit and finish are excellent. Its power is adequate for the mountainous terrain here and the gas mileage (always 48 mpg or better) makes you smile as you pass the gas stations.Besides that, the car is just FUN to drive. I can find no fault with the car!

  • Beware of the rear headroom in the hatchback! - 2017 Honda Civic
    By -

I test drove an EX hatchback and eventually did *not* buy one. There was one particular aspect which gave me a pause but which many reviews seem to miss: the rear headroom. Im tall, but nothing crazy (6ft) and when sitting in the back, my head was firmly against the ceiling. Curiously, that wasnt the case if I set completely straight, only when I reclined comfortably -- I would hit the edge of the ceiling with the back of my head. It seems that the ceiling in this car just isnt very flat and leans too much into the cabin near the edges. Considering how large this new Civic is compared to the older ones, I find this unacceptable. Note that I set in a sedan version for comparison and that one was OK -- this problem is specific to the hatchback.
