Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Great Value - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

Tested quite a few cars, Civic, Jetta, Accord, Focus. The civic seemed to be the best value for the money. Got rid of a Toyota Tundra (pricey, horrible gas mileage!!!). What fun it is to drive a car again! I had a 94 Civic at one point and should have never got rid of it. It feels good choosing a Honda again.

  • Great Little Car - 2008 Honda Civic

Just picked up my Civic EXL Coupe and so far I am a big fan of this little car. Theres plenty of power under the hood and handling is tight and responsive. As much as I love this car there are a few places where Honda could improve. Interior plastics are soft and appear to scuff easily and power seats would be a huge improvement.

I am a daily commuter driving 125 miles to and from work. I have over 130K miles on my Civic LX. I get an average of 36-37 mpg (mostly highway). Heres my secret. Mobil 1 5w30, Mobil 1 oil filter. I use only Shell gasoline. If I switch to an off-brand, the mpg goes down to 32-33mpg. This car is the best car I have ever owned. It is smooth, agile, and looks great. Very affordable car. I can wait to purchase a 2006.

  • Love it! - 2003 Honda Civic

This is my very first car as I am a new driver. Ive been driving it for a month now and I love everything about it except for the tires. The EX model is equipped with cheap firestone tires that dont do well in snow. I recomend it to other young drivers especially because its easy to drive, comfortable, great gas mileage, and quiet.

  • Beyond the Glory! - 2006 Honda Civic

My wife and I traded our 2002 Accord EX on this new Civic sedan with navigation system. We loved the look ever since I saw it in a car magazine and on the Internet. When we drove it, I was expecting to notice a difference in power from the Accord V6, but the little VTEC engine shined. The Civic did, however, handle much better and was smoother and quiet than the 2002 Accord! With the windows down, the wide open sunroom made it seem like riding in convertible. With the windows up and the AC running, it felt like a luxury car. I have never driven a car that was so much fun to drive, comortable, had nice features like a good stereo and a nav system, for such a great price! Way to go Honda!

  • My first honda and stick. - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

Bought the EX on the 31st of last month. I looked at everything Nissan, Mazda, Toyota, Subaru. This car had everything I wanted in a smaller car. Gas mileage is nice, performance is acceptable for what it has, braking and ride comfort is amazing for a small car. My previous car was an AT 95 Concorde, this thing quite a change of pace from that huge car. It feels very planted while driving, and this also being my first stick was fairly easy to learn on I think. I am finding excuses to drive it.

  • sweet car for a 17 year old - 1999 Honda Civic
    By -

This is my third car in less than two years (after 92 S10 and 91 Celica GT) and i know that is pathetic. this is the car i will be keeping. This car revs into the stratoshpere, which i do and still get 26 mpg in city driving. i will eventually get an intake, exhaust, and new wheels and tires. only a few rattles (wierd sunroof rattle) with 53k on the clock from the previous owner. great car.

  • My 2nd VX and better than the 1st !!! - 1992 Honda Civic
    By -

I owned my 1st VX for 10 years - see my 5/2002 review in this section. I was very sad when I sold it but I did because it started to rust badly in several areas. While looking at the bargain section of the car classifieds of the Detroit newspaper I found another 92 VX! for only $1500! Whats great about this one? NO SERIOUS RUST!! Three years later????? Anyway the new one (14 years young next month) is really fantastic. It has only 128,000 miles, doesnt leak/burn/use oil, the engine runs like new and the interior is in better shape than my 1st VX - seats and carpeting are mint. Still has the same advantages and disadvantages as the old one but if I could find another 92 Id buy it!!

  • Lovin My Civic - 2005 Honda Civic
    By -

I needed better gas mileage yet I wanted something fun to drive and with good sporty looks. The Civic is it! The car is tight, quick enough to be safe and drives great. I get 30+ mpg around town with the air running all the time and I dont baby it. The interior room is more than ample with good comfort in the rear. I find the driver seating comfortable. The car is loaded with engineering you cant see and deserves more credit for that. The Honda engineers put a lot of thought and design into the drivetrain which is most important. I liken this car to my first Accord that I purchased in 1973. This is that car reborn in every way for fun, drive and economy. I plan on 200k miles.

  • I love this car! - 2016 Honda Civic

Only one minor complaint with the walk away lock set. Every now and then when I walk away there is a rapid beeping of the lock set alarm and the doors do not lock. Could not get an explanation from the dealer.
