Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Dont love the car - 2004 Honda Civic

I have owned this car for 17 months. During that time, I have had to have a windshield seal reglued, the fuel sensor replaced, the cruise control unit replaced, the sunroof control unit replaced, and most recently, the gauges replaced. The gauges were replaced this week and the odometer now reads 100+ miles. Honda told me yesterday that they cannot reset it to the actual mileage--very annoying. I guess Im supposed to live with this even though the car is under warranty. Im not happy, and I still dont know yet if my low-fuel light problem has been fixed so that I actually can know when I need gas without tracking my mileage with the tripometer.

After 20 years of driving small 4- cylinder pickups, this car is a joy. I wanted to finally get something fun to drive and with the stick shift, this is it. Practical, inexpensive, fuel efficient, great styling and outstanding engineering/manufacturing quality. I found that I disagreed with virtually all the complaints I read in the owner reviews. Of course, my last car (er.. truck) wasnt a Beamer either so Im easy.

This is a wonderful little car. It has a much higher quality feel than previous civics and seats four adults very comfortably. Just dont purchase the car expecting to get the EPA mileage estimate... no cars get EPA under normal driving. Real world driving will yield low 40s for this car and around 30 for the standard Civic. With a little effort you can learn to achieve 50 and beyond on a regular basis with this car.

What can I say? Its a Honda. Its a great car. When I bought mine, it had 85k on it, now it has around 130k and running strong. Starts every day, runs like a beast. The thing I like is the amount of aftermarket parts. The B16A shouldve been offered.Even though you can get a 5-spd, more power could have been nice although it has a decent amount. It couldve had a little more room in the back seats, but nontheless, its comfortable. I drive pretty hard sometimes and Ive --NEVER-- had any problems with it. I just take it and get the oil changed every 3k miles and have things serviced. Its a very sporty, well-built car and I would --- HIGHLY---- recommend this car to anyone.

  • Excellent Buy, Fun to Drive - 2003 Honda Civic

I walked into a Honda dealership, and decided to test drive a Civic EX Coupe. I hated it. I couldnt believe the lack of power, lack of amentities, and high sticker price the car held. As I began to walk away disappointed, my salesman suggested the Si. I wasnt too keen on the clumsy post-modern hatchback design, but once I drove it I couldnt say No. The car has tons of torque, an incredibly solid front end, a smooth shifter, and a sexy sporty interior. I also feel that the car is a steal for what im paying - $3000 out of pocket, and $200 a month for 4 years.

  • Great investment, I love my car - 1997 Honda Civic

This car has been wonderful. Im at 104k miles and hardly any problems so far. Just had some minor things fixed last week (scheduled maintenance, brakes, water pump, timing belt), but before that only the muffler replaced (around 60k probably) and a motor mount (around 90K). Very reliable car, still running very well. Ive driven it thousands of miles on the interstate and never had to worry. I love it and plan to keep driving it until it dies.

  • Excellent car - 1992 Honda Civic

The car is built very well and will last for a very long time if not driven like a race car and oil changed as scheduled. I have 177K on mine right now and cant imagine it not making it to 250-300K. It runs great and its the most dependable car Ive ever had.

Excellent car for the price. Quite roomy for the class, 127 hp is more than enough for daily driving. It gets out of its own way without a problem. Braking is excellent. The VTech engine just purrs. It alone is worth the difference in price over the LX/DX models. Seats are comfortable, although at 510" I just have enough headroom with the seat lowered all the way. The shifter is sublime

Overall should be very worth while, the body reminds me of the older Lotus Esprit with the long racked windshield. While having to use premium I still already see the cost savings of using this car. Mileage is always in the upper 20s - lower 30s, and this is the sports model in there line, with gas approaching $4 a gallon the couple of cents for premium out ways the difference. It handles very well, corners great, even now I am still amazed at how spunky this car is, its not the big "Hemi-V8" but let the rpms work for you and you can fly. I see people complain there is no power, my response is you dont know how to handle the car then, and you shouldnt drive one then...

I purchased this car a few months ago and so far so good. It was one year old and I think I got a great deal on it. Love driving it. Handles great and has power for a 4 cyl. 2.0. Great transmission and although the ride is harsh I guess that is what you sacrifice for the handling and sport. The only negative so far is that, third gear sticks. I dont know if anyone else has that problem.
