Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • If you think this car is noisy... - 2012 Honda Civic
    By -

Just traded in a 2009 Accent for a 2012 new, left over Civic. have put on 150 miles in 2 days and planning a road trip to test its mettle. Very impressed so far. Started with a 2012 Accent which was totaled. Went with the 09 on the assurance that it would give me 300,000 miles. What it gave me was 2K worth of repairs in one year. I havent driven other cars in the Civics class, but it handles and rides like a dream. Seating is very comfortable, back seat even in the coupe model is spacious. Engine is a quiet hum. Hoping that this will be my 300K mile vehicle.

  • Great gas mileage, everything else meh. - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

I get great gas mileage in this car... I average 30 city, 34-37 highway. I once got 40 mpg and thats going through mountain roads. The only problem is the build quality, my engine went at 85xxx then my tranny at 146xxx. I could understand the engine because at the time I was doing deliveries with the car plus it was an unbearably hot summer. The tranny it just all of a sudden gave out without any warning. Ive read from other sources that many people have this problem with the early 2000 civics (bad trannies).

  • Ford Focus may have the hatchback, but Civic has overall better value - 2013 Honda Civic
    By -

I test driven the 2013s Elantra GT, Mazda CX-5, Focus SE hatchback (hb) and Civic Ex. It finally came down to the wire between the Focus and Civic.... I thought over the need of a hb, and seemed compelling at first, I dont recall needing to haul a lot of stuff last several years, and if I did I rented a van a couple of times from Home Depot. Next, the hb looks nice, but reduces the rear viewing area. Overall, I felt the Civic has improved significantly. MPG, long term cost of ownership, features and styling matters to me. The 2013 Civic nails them in pretty well. Im giving it a 4 star on value, since it now cost a little more after Fords recent $2,500 factory incentive.

  • Nice to own a honda again... - 2013 Honda Civic
    By -

10 Jetta lease was up. I dislike the styling of the new Jettas so I went in for a 13 Accord Sport and left with a 13 Civic LX. Both great cars but I enjoyed the handling and overall feel of the Civic a bit more. I now prefer the Civic dashboard over a typical one (surprisingly). I also own a 12 Subaru Impreza which seems a lot zippier to 40mph but its also not nearly as quite (loud CVT and road noise) which for a daily commute of 120 miles is very important. My daily commute broken down is 40 miles city and 80 miles highway. I average 37mpg not using ECO but I use cruise control often. Over 400 miles per tank. I get compliments from my co-workers for what it is...a nice compact car.

  • uncomfortable seats - 2013 Honda Civic
    By -

It took a few days to realize how uncomfortable the front seats are in this car. I tried to trade it back in, and was told I would take a $3k loss. They also wanted me to pay full sticker on the new car. I would not recomend Ocean Honda of New Port Richey(Florida). I chose this car for the reliability and mpg. If it wasnt for the seat, I would love this car.

  • Money pit - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

I got the car 3 years ago with 115K on the odometer. Instantly invested 2000$ and replaced almost all suspension, motor mounts, power steering pump, timing belt, water pump. At 120K the transmission suddenly died. I replaced it. Now car has 180K. Water pump replaced, wheel studs replaced on 3 wheels. Having electric problems now. This car has good MPG, but requires constant repair.

  • Very Please With My Honda Civic - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

My car just hit 81,000 miles no problems I drive her daily and my teen drives her also. Only maintenance have needed to do is oil changes and air filters. The gas mileage is excellent. Tires replaced every 2 years. Never have had an issue. She handles great, takes corners tight.Very pleased no complaints I have owned 9 different types of cars before purchasing my Honda I will never buy another brand of car again. For a car in this purchase price area your not going to receive all the bells and whistles. For the money I do believe it is the best car in its class. Yes the a/c tweaks with the speed The inside cabin does have noise You can feel anything you run over The radio is not the best

  • Dependable Friend in the Garage - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

The Honda Civic is one of the best expressions of the economy sedan. The basic concept of offering as much room as possible to the passengers, while also providing fuel economy and nimbleness is well served by the Honda Civic.

  • Pretty pleased except for .... - 2007 Honda Civic
    By -

I am very pleased with this car, except for as many consumers have already posted is the tire wear and the road noise. I do experience some transmission shaking when I am driving from a complete stop. This happens right around 15-22 mph. But if you step on the gas it isnt noticeable. The MPG is great, I drive rather mello to max out my MPGs and I am getting low 30s consistently (30-34). The sun visor seems to break right at the hinge (2x), but over all this car has been good to me.
