Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  I purchased this car new, and have had a great experience with it. It has been driven cross country several times. I have gotten 140,000 miles so far and have done nothing except routine maintenence.

  Civi Si - 2000 Honda Civic

  First off, if i know that the "Si" meant steal it I would have bought a daewoo. Other than that its a blast to drive. What really sold me was the fact that I could get some sporty performance or decent gas mileage (havent hit above 32 mpg yet), depending on my mood. Also it handles really well for being FWD. I also really liked that they put in the B16A2 engine instead of boring D-series.

  I have had really good luck with my 1994 Honda Civic DX. It has 178,000 miles on it. About 3 yrs ago, a lot of things went wrong with it at the same time. But they were all things that if I had kept on top of them, they probably wouldnt have gone wrong like they did. I have been extremely happy with my car, and even today, I get about 32 mpg. The main thing I would gripe about is that I am about to put in the 2nd compressor for my A/C.

  Thats what the dealer called it, and he was right. Great design; reminds me of my 1988 Prelude in how it stole my heart. Didnt take long to get used to the speedo up by the windshield. 140 hp and 40 mpg? Oh yeh. Ive had the car two weeks, and I have yet to go through the tank of gas my dealer gave me with the car.

  I purchased my 2006 "Si" 1/07/2006. It is the crystal "gray" color which to me looks more of a "green" color. Off the lot we drove it over 600 miles (very conservatively) What a fighter Jet!

  Nice but... - 2007 Honda Civic

  It handles great although it takes time to get used to. Looks nice inside and outside, but the plastic inside is very cheap and has a weird smell even after 6 months.The MPG varies: highway between 38-42 MPG based on speed and driving style, but in the city is just 24-25 MPG without air conditioner which is less than expected. Another con is the the road noise because of the tires and lack of insulating materials. A great feature is steering wheel mounted audio control and cruise control. I forgot the ceiling light on, so the next day my battery died; this car should have an alarm to let you know about the problem or to shut down itself as in my husbands 1999 Volkswagen Golf. So be aware.

  I have only had this car for a couple of days, but I LOVE it. Fun to drive, sporty, great turn radius, and awesome visibility. Its a great time to buy. It was a steal at only $17,816.

  2008 Honda Civic EX - 2008 Honda Civic

  All future Honda buyers, BEWARE! I bought my car merely a year ago and since about 6 months ago, it has been making sounds like there is a horse under the hood. Last week, it LOST most of what little power it had (could only go 25mph) and the dealer said that nothing was wrong with it. Then, 5 days later, the damn thing stalled in the middle of an intersection. I had to get out and push then have it towed! And when I take it in for repair, the car doesnt act up so they say that everything checks out fine. I cant sell it because the economy is so bad and plus it WILL give trouble to its new owner.

  Why anyone would spring for the sport or sport touring version of this hatch for an extra 6 horses is beyond me as youre signing up for having to purchase premium fuel for the life of your ownership, as well as getting inferior fuel economy. You cant even feel the modest increase. Yeah, the exhaust setup looks nice but imo its too aggressive looking - save that for the type R or Si. Anyway - overall very happy with purchase - fuel economy in mixed driving hitting a little under what its rated for - Im hoping that changes. Not a huge fan of the honeycomb faux vents on the rear bumper but I bought black so they blend in better than other colors. I love the overall design of this hatch, and although typically prefer a good M/T over an automatic, Im pretty impressed by the CVT on this car.
