Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

i bought this car in 2002 used with 87,000 miles on it. it now has 126,000. very few repairs. it is very reliable and well built. hondas are unbeatable on their ability to build practical, long term vehicles. love this car!

  • Safe, solid, satisfied - 2009 Honda Civic

I have owned a 2006 Honda Accord since new, and have been very pleased. Along came cash for clunkers, and I happened to have a 94 Explorer that I was ready to junk, and lo and behold, $4500 was too much to pass up for a new car. This 09 lx-s sedan is really the ticket! Its solid and responsive. The black interior is unique to other civics, and really sets it apart. Both the 06 and the 09 are white. Seems to be the best color for looking sharp and to keep clean, although I do like black. Have had the car for a couple of months, get 30 mpg average, and really like driving it. Ive learned to keep my right knee away from the emergency brake handle. It bothered me at first.

  • Everything I expected - 2008 Honda Civic

Ive had my civic for ~5 months now, and put over 9,000 miles on it. Its been fantastic, and Ive only had to get an oil change once (because of the new more aerodynamic design, according to my dealership). Its a solid car, that I am very happy with. I did a lot of background research before I made the purchase, and it definitely stood far out beyond the other cars of its class. Its got a slightly sporty interior, that honestly feels luxurious. My only real complaint is that Ive been getting approx. 30 mpg highway. I was expecting much higher, but considering I dont exactly drive in a way conducive to ideal gas mileage.

  • Best Car Ever - 2007 Honda Civic

Bought this in Nighthawk Black. Has the full body kit from Honda and aftermarket exhaust from Injen. One test drive and you will be hooked. The handling is outstanding would never know it is front wheel drive. On top of that this car loves to be driven quick and it drives like a rocket. i have averaged 29 mpg in mixed driving including fast starts and high speed stints. The interior is typical Honda quality with everything looking very refined. I do not know of any car that comes close to the SI in terms of the complete package.

This car has been great for us. Im sorry to be giving it up as we bought a minivan. Its great for getting around town. But, in the land of the mondo-sized SUV, I dont feel that its safe driving this car with the kids in it. But, Im thinking Ill keep driving it to work as it still gets 30+mpg even after all these years.

  • Love my civic hybrid - 2006 Honda Civic

I have over 1,500 miles and I am now getting 50 to 53 MPG. I am also not using the air conditioner. The first several tanks of gas averaged 42 MPG while breaking in. During the recent heat wave my mileage dropped to 37 MPG because the "auto stop" would not function most of the time. I also used the air conditioner constantly. I stopped in at my Honda service desk and was told as soon as the heat improved my car would resume "auto stop". This was true. I still love my hybrid anyway.

  • Civic 2016, Finally back to a good ride! - 2016 Honda Civic

The wife has a 2013 Civic LX which she likes, but I never, ever found it to be appealing. It looked boring and cheap to me, but it has been reliable and is quite frugal on fuel, but a bit noisey. For myself Ive been looking for a new car for a year and had the 2015 Mazda 3 as my number one choice. But kept hoping that there would be something to compete with it. With the 2016 Civic EX, well, it has happened. The Mazda 3 is still to me the best looking compact, but the new Civic went from ugly to just two steps behind the Mazda. At 6 feet 2 inches tall, I feel very comfortable with the headroom space of the my new Civic. Also being over 60 year old, I find it to be easy to get into. The interior design makes me feel I have more width as well in the front compact. The seats are okay, but they need thigh support, no compacts seems to address this. Driving it around curves is so much fun, the Mazda 3 handles even tighter, but when I test drove it, I found the ride a little too firm. I chose the 2.0 L 4 cylinder engine, because my old 1990 Accords (my favorite car of all times) had a 2.2 L 4 cylinder engine that lasted over 307,000 miles. Theres only a inch difference between the 90 Accord and my new Civc, yeah! Didnt see a reason for a turbo 1.5 L, with it extra components, which could have problems later. Oh yes, I love the Android Auto features that work with the EX head unit. The only shortcoming is the honda sensing safety suite. I almost chose the Mazda 3 because it had blindside monitoring and cross traffic alert. I find the passenger side camera distracting. Had it only a week, so this is just an instant impression review. Oh yes, the price is kind of high when you go beyond the LX version. For a few grand more, I could have had an Accord.

  • Great car (1999 Honda Civic LX 4DR.) - 1999 Honda Civic

This car is awesome. it is one of the best cars i have ever owned, even drove. I have the 99 model, so not only was it affordable when i bought it, but i have had no problems with it at all. It drives great and my buddies love it. It can be a young single persons car, a retired persons car, or even a family car. If you are on a low budjet for your next car but still want it to be very nice , I definitely recommend the 99 Honda civic Lx, esspecially the black one.

  • Excellent Form of City Transportation. - 2000 Honda Civic

This is my second Civic. Although my first 98 DX model had some problems with (lots of cheap and fragile interior plastics), everything else outweighted all the negative aspects. My 2000 EX, which patched DX flaws with quality interior and added lots of nice power features including 127hp engine. Two years later, I CANNOT find a singe thing to complain about. Overall, Honda are ideal vehicles for those folks who like to spare their nervous system from factory recalls, getting stranded on the roadside and spending tons of money on parts and labor.
