Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Great on gas and reliable - 1993 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought it when it had 97K miles original miles on it and at 130K miles I pulled out old weak motor and transmission aka d15z1 vtec-e out and put in a stronger sohc d16y8 and never looked back. I remember back then this car couldnt climb up a hill or beat my moms Geo Prizm, lmao! This car pays for it self within one year on gas saving powers! A die hard Honda fan! If you want a gas saver, this car is the way to go. If you want a monster horse power machine, this car is the way to go after a motor swap. What can i say this car is easy to fix/maintain and is awesome on gas. Plus mechanically, it will out last any other 1993 car, I swear! This car will probably be passed on to my kids.

  • 3 days in and loving it! - 2013 Honda Civic
    By -

I just leased a 2013 Honda Civic Coupe EX, and so far Im loving it! Now, to be fair, I upgraded from a 2000 Ford Focus LX with manual everything, so being enthusiastic about a new car wasnt a very tall order. I probably would have been just as happy with a new Yugo if there still was such a thing. But overall, I love the body style and interior design of the Coupe EX. The dash is laid out very well and all the controls are within easy reach. The ONLY potential downside I see is the quality of the cloth seats...Im just not sure how long that fabric is going to keep looking good. Handles very well, and is a nice smooth, quiet ride. Pretty good stereo system too with the 7 speakers.

  • Great Car - 2013 Honda Civic

The consumer reviews dont lie. This truly is a great car. I would suggest not getting the hybrid because the regular car on the econ mode can get 45 mpg. I use to own a VW Passat and am indescribably happy to get rid of it for my new Civic. I will never stray from Honda or Toyota ever again. The Civic is fun to drive, has a lot of nice features (pandora interface, econ mode, back up camera, ect), and is reliable. I rented a 2012 Honda Civic when I was in Boston and was really impressed with it. I ended up buying the 2013 version since its more refined. There is a reason you see so many Honda vehicles on the road...because they make a solid car that wont leave you stranded.

  • Problems - 2012 Honda Civic
    By -

I like my car, but its broke down 3 times in the first 3,600 miles. The rocker arm bent the first, and the next time another rocker arm broke in two. This should not happen with a that only has 3,600 mile on it. Has anyone else had this issue?

  • Love my new Civic! - 2013 Honda Civic

Where to start this review. I must say, this car is a great value. Its quiet on the highway and in the city. So many little small features that you never expect. The i-MED screen is customizable and the headlights go off if you leave them on. Gas mileage is great. Eco mode does save you save gas while driving in the city, but at a expense of off-the-line acceleration. I love how the blinker you can tap and it does 3 blinks for you to change lanes. The headlights are great at night and the car handles great. I must say, I am still learning how to use all the features on this car. I have had it since March. I have achieved 43.7 mpg hwy on a 100 mile round trip, eco mode on. Handles GREAT!

  • Dont buy a hybrid, get this car! - 2012 Honda Civic
    By -

Driving from Cincinnati, OH to Gatlinburg, TN this past weekend we averaged 41 MPG while having the sunroof open fully and all the windows open about 2 inches. From there we continued through the App. Mountains to Greenville, SC and averaged 43 MPG with the AC running and we were not doing anything crazy like turning off the motor. I remember the sticker saying this car was rated at 39. We averaged about 73 MPH the whole way in mild to medium traffic. We bought this car with 9000 miles on it for $17,000 and have added 16,000 miles in 6 Months. No expensive or dangerous batteries to mess with and we can turn the ECON button off whenever we want to get more juice.

  • New Hybrid runs well but head restraints are a pain - 2013 Honda Civic
    By -

I just purchased a new 2013 Civic Hybrid. The vehicle only has 500 miles on it so far, so there isnt much to tell yet. Averaging 44.5 mpg, which is a little less than my 2003 model, but definitely acceptable. Color is supposed to be green opal metallic, but it just looks blue to me. Im a little unsure of all the electronics on the new model. In general, our electronic gadgets only last a couple of years, and I expect to drive this car for much longer than that. Im concerned that Electronic components in a vehicle can be VERY expensive to replace.

  • Buy one for reliability - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I struggled with constant repairs on domestic cars for years before purchasing this car. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Bought at 47K miles in 2007 and now have 120K. In that time only ONE thing has ever gone wrong and that was a sensor that only cost $150. It just blows my mind how reliable this thing is. This car is such a smart choice and can be found for under $5K atm. Will be one of the best vehicle investments you ever make.

  • Good gas savings - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

Awesome gas mileage but definitely no race car. Worth the money you save on gas. I accelerate and brake hard a lot and average 33 mpg. I havent had any major repairs. I highly suggest this car to anyone

  • I got a lemon but still love Honda - 1995 Honda Civic
    By -

I purchased my Civic about 2 years ago from a college kid whod lost his license and was really happy with the car initially. However, I think mainly due to very, very bad mechanics (took mine to a national chain that shall remain nameless) Im pretty sure theyre the reason why my head gasket went after only owning the car 1.5 yrs. I paid 2k for the car and put over another 2k into it for repairs. Horrible experience but I still love Honda. I was trying to buy another Civic albeit a newer model, but ended up with a Corolla instead-the price was right and Ive owned a Corolla before. Id still buy a Honda in a heartbeat as this was a solid vehicle until it was mistreated by idiots.
