This Year's Model Updates:

In typical Honda fashion, the Civic receives a number of minor changes this year in order to keep it fresh. For the coupe and sedan, there's new exterior styling, including restyling for the front and rear bumpers, hood, headlights and grille. Inside, the audio speakers have been upgraded, extra sound deadening material has been added and floor mats are now standard in the LX and EX. The LX trim has slightly bigger wheels this year (15 inches) and standard keyless entry. A new value package contains air conditioning, a CD player and a new center console. For the Si hatchback, there are new headlight and taillight designs, larger 16-inch wheels and flashier interior trim. Like the regular sedan, the Civic Hybrid has updated styling, standard floor mats and improved speakers. It also has a new interior console with an armrest, adjustable rear headrests and a manual driver-seat height adjuster. Finally, all 2004 Honda Civic sedans and coupes have a new seatbelt reminder system.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability and quality, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Top-of-the-line models are pricey, antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

  • I Love my Civic - 2004 Honda Civic

The wife and I bought a 2004 civic new, and love it. Fit and finish are excellent. Fuel economy is great I have averaged 37mpg (better than window sticker). I have put 58k on it in 18 months and only had to change the oil and buy a set of tires. This is the best car for the money. We bought it new for around 16K. Reliable and comfortable, and safe to, I was in two accidents and both times walked away fine (not fender benders were talking serous crumple zone work-6K in damage). The civic is a great commuter car.

  • Never again! - 2004 Honda Civic

This is my second Civic. I love my first one. This one is horrible. I had to have the fuel system replaced twice in the first 15,000 miles. The car does not handle as well and is unsteady around turns on the highway. I am commute over 100 miles round trip daily and dislike this vehicle most of the time. It is loud and the sluggish nothing like the one before this one. The only good part is the gas mileage which is in about high 30s in and out of the city. I will never buy Honda again as the company has been miserable to deal with and fixing stuff. My car is just one of many in the area that have had major problems with systems and gauges.

Fantastic car. Only averages 28 mpg though. Beautiful from every angle inside & out. No mechanical problems at all. Stiff ride for Detroit roads. Great in the curves. Does 125 mph with ease. Super quality materials inside. Made in Europe. Great value at $17,200. Hondas hold their value great. Im already ahead of the depreciation curve after only 1.5 years.

  • Nice dependable car - 2004 Honda Civic

Weve driven this Civic in all sorts of situations, city and country, and found it very reliable and very much what we were looking for. The fuel economy is good. Our single complaint is that the rear bumper is very easily damaged, and when damaged the whole bumper cover must be replaced. It would be nice if they would make it a little more crash resistant at low speeds.

This is a realy great car. I needed to have something I could put some kids (big kids) into and this seems to be the answer. We occasionaly take a 275 mile trip to the Outer Banks and it performs well. Gas mileage isnt bad considering I have a lead foot. The whole family likes it.

  • Third Ones a Charm - 2004 Honda Civic

This is my third honda. First bought a 94 hatchback, traded it in for a 98 CRV. I kept the CRV for weekends and bought an 2004 LX for the everyday commute. We wanted a sedan for better gas milage and went with the LX since it has all of the features we were used to with the CRV LX. Has the same light ride as the CRV but hugs the road better. I was surprised at the 15 inch wheels! Makes it look sportier. The lines remind you of a 3-series BMW. I love the new Magnesium Metallic color. First tank got us 30 to the gallon. Im glad they got rid of the the center lap belt. Internet sales helped us get it $500 below invoice.

  • Noisy Engine - 2004 Honda Civic
    By -

This is my second Honda. Heres a couple of negative, yet pertinent, comments: 1) noisy engine while idling, which should not happen to a mint new car. 2) noisy power steering at 90 degree turn. 3) not enough power on a 1:8 slope, no passengers and loads. 4) headlight still on after locking door.

  • Civic comes out winner after long search - 2004 Honda Civic

Tested out Corolla an others - Glad I went with a Civic though! The grill and headlight shaping for 2004 are a big improvement over 2003. Interior is put together SO well. Not boring - love the electric-blue gauges. Each part of interior feels like it was crafted specifically for your car - not in mass. No rough edges on molded plastic. Ride is awesome! Told my wife I wouldnt consider anything but an EX. After testing an LX, I was surprised that the less powerful LX engine didnt feel lazy. Just wonderful! Handling is tight and responsive, not boaty like a Corolla. Transmission is SOOOO silky smooth!! Love it!
