Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Excellent MPG & Power but NOT a Hybrid - 2005 Honda Civic
    By -

The 2005 Honda Civic is extremely cost effective, comfortable, safe, powerful and good looking. Considering initial cost, resale value, and maintenance this is the smartest vehicle on the road. I have been impressed with the amount of trunk space and passenger room. My 2005 Civic is not a hybrid but while travelling with passengers, lots of cargo, and a/c running has averaged excellent gas mileage (near 40 mpg). I recently took a 400 mile round trip in the Smoky Mountains and I averaged 42 mpg with plenty of power too. I saved several thousands not buying a hybrid and my 2005 Civic takes off like a rocket from the stop light too.

I bought this car in 03 after my 01 civic was totalled. Ive loved it dearly and Ill be passing it down to my baby sister even with 60K miles on it. I have NEVER had any work done to it. Its cute and sporty with the optional spoiler.

Owned a Civic before this one. So many more nice standards on this one - back-up camera, keyless entry, automatic climate control - I love it!

Most aspects of the car is good. Noise is a big issue, but I put some rubber tar roof repair on all four wheel wells and it helped considerably. The extra sound insulation I put in the doors helped a little too. Every time I fill the tank, I calculate the mpg numbers and its been around 35-37/gal ever since I started using Mobil1 synthetic oil at around 10,000 miles on the odometer. Im at 40,000 now. The only nagging problem Ive had is the plastic panel in the rear windshield making a noise similar to the one you hear when cutting a piece of glass. Took it to the dealer but they say because its just a clip and not a bolt, they cant do much except stick some card board in it.

  • I thought Honda was the best - 2001 Honda Civic

We thought the perfect car for my husband and then pass it on to my teenager, but we noticed it did not handle good and the suspension is horrible. very disappointed to find that there is a defective part in the transmission. Had to go back and forth to dealer to find out. The sensor light would go on and off. disappointed with my 2001.

  • Great Car!! - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

I purchased my Civic used with 35,000 miles on it. I currently hit the 90,000 mark and had the Honda maintenance done, and it runs like its brand new. Havent had any major problems, just typical wear and tear. Handling is great on the back roads around my house and dont even have to downshift to go up and down hills and around the S-turns. Great gas mileage, have made it to around 40-44 mph in daily driving (not highway). Definitely no complaints. Security features are FINE, car homes with a code that you punch in if the battery dies. Manual transmission is still shifting great and going strong. No problems with clutch, etc.

  • A disappointment. - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Id always wanted a Honda, so finally bought one (a new Civic) in Dec. 2006; fit & finish are good, however annoying petty issues have left me very disappointed in this model. Fuel mileage is superb however mysterious "thumping" noise in right front end that cannot be repaired, and bad power steering pump negates any positivity on my part. Interior visor had to be replaced. Several recalls. Tire noise and longevity is a problem also. May trade after national economy improves.

Bought this car to save money in anticipation of rising gas prices. It was purchased for commuting but we drive it on trips too. I have logged every fill-up and calculate a lifetime average of 46 MPG. Mileage is cyclic with weather here in western NY. In winter get as low as 38 MPG. Summer as high as 53 MPG. At 68000 miles I estimate a savings of $1700 over a car with average of 30 MPG. Trade-in value is $2800 greater than 2003 Civic LX. Have had no maintenance issues. On second set of tires and still original brakes. I enjoy owning this car and will keep it until it rusts in half. I will buy another alternate energy vehicle at the next opportunity.

I like this car, I thought this car would get about 32 miles per gallon, when actually I get around 28... 28!! Whoa! Thats kind of bad but not too bad for city. Build quality is pretty solid for me. I had an 02 saturn sl manual. so this car for me is pretty nice! Mine came with leather seats too!! Over all pretty great car!! Very satisfied.
