This Year's Model Updates:

In typical Honda fashion, the Civic receives a number of minor changes this year in order to keep it fresh. For the coupe and sedan, there's new exterior styling, including restyling for the front and rear bumpers, hood, headlights and grille. Inside, the audio speakers have been upgraded, extra sound deadening material has been added and floor mats are now standard in the LX and EX. The LX trim has slightly bigger wheels this year (15 inches) and standard keyless entry. A new value package contains air conditioning, a CD player and a new center console. For the Si hatchback, there are new headlight and taillight designs, larger 16-inch wheels and flashier interior trim. Like the regular sedan, the Civic Hybrid has updated styling, standard floor mats and improved speakers. It also has a new interior console with an armrest, adjustable rear headrests and a manual driver-seat height adjuster. Finally, all 2004 Honda Civic sedans and coupes have a new seatbelt reminder system.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability and quality, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Top-of-the-line models are pricey, antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

My family has always been a loyal american made car buying one. However I noticed all the problems we had with buicks, cadillacs, chevys etc. Engines powerful by awful electronics and fuel econ. My wifes family had 3 generations of accords putting on average 150,000 on each with only minor problems. So I decided to get a civic mainly for work commute and to avoid the rath of my wife. Have had it only for one month but so far like it alot. Cant beat the gas mileage, ride, stereo, and room for the price.

I read enough about both the civic and prius to make me think its a toss up. The final factor, availabilty. Two toyota dealers had waiting list of 8 months to a year and a half. Honda dealer two miles from my work hadnt started a list yet and I had the next delivered hybrid. (3 days). I know it was lucky, but i got a hybrid for a few grand less, zero waiting, few hundred under sticker and in time to get the 2003 tax break.

In terms of meeting expectations, this vehicle is the best Ive ever owned! Were delighted to be getting 40.1 mpg (36,000 mi) in reasonable comfort and variable driving conditions saving more than half the monthly cost of gas relative to our SUV (which I still use for off-road work).

Good on gas mileage, but under-powered. Interior features are average and seats are somewhat uncomfortable. No provisions to carry a full-size spare tire. Overall a nice daily-driver.

Good looking car, excellent gas mileage, comfortable interior, quiet running/idle.Handles good on dry pavement, okay on wet. Not very good in snow conditions.

  • Saves $$$ on Gas - But Crappy Car - 2004 Honda Civic

The car is only good for its gas mileage. Otherwise it is a poorly manufactured vehicle. You have to crank the radio more than half way to hear anything since the car fails to block the road and engine noise. Speaking of engine noise, the engine is so loud even though the engine power is worse than my lawnmower. The car easily scratches internally and externally. The car is so compact and uncomfortable. Also, there is no door lock/unlock switch on the passenger side. What the hell was Honda thinking. It is common sense. It probably costs Honda only $2 to install that feature in the car. No space in the back seat.

  • The Best Car I Have Ever Had..... - 2004 Honda Civic

I really like this car, I bought it because I never heard anything bad about hondas and the vehicle that I did have was in and out of the shop all the time, plus I wanted something really good on gas (which it is). I have had my car over a year and havent had a single problem with it. The interior is kinda cheap looking but I have seen my worse. I like the way it looks on the outside. They have solved the look issues on the 2006 model. I like all the safety features that come standard as well like the ability to lock everything so no one can get in to the trunk, gas tank without key. And the best part is you cant lock your keys in the car!!!!

  • Great but need to meet technology - 2004 Honda Civic

I loved my Honda. The only design problems I had with my honda was you could not charge a cell phone and your XM radio at the same time with only one socket. Like most cars now I think Honda should step into the 21st century and at least have 2 sockets. Also, the cup holder got in the way when you were charging your cell phone or had your xm radio plugged in. So, the designers should think of people that drive. Also, I would not recommend a Civic for people over 5 10". Not good on leg room!

  • Nice Car though needs improvment - 2004 Honda Civic

The car drives very well. It does very well in gas mileage. However when the gauge reaches quarter tank the needle almost judt drops to "E". I upgraded from the Dx model to th LX. I like the thicker tires and the new gauges.
