This Year's Model Updates:

Honda redesigns its cars and trucks every four to five years, whether they need it or not. For 2001, it's the Honda Civic's turn. Larger inside and out, with more powerful engines but a less sophisticated suspension, coupes and sedans return in familiar DX, LX and EX trims, while HX models come with two doors only. The GX Sedan is powered by natural gas. Unfortunately, the hatchback dies just when Americans are once again figuring out how useful they can be, and the sporty Si goes on hiatus for a year or two.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, reputation for durability, neato CVT transmission, likely to retain a healthy chunk of original value, impressive crash-test scores.
Cons:
  • Si goes bye-bye, gotta get the EX or GX for ABS, vanilla-flavored sedan styling.

This car isnt that bad, but it could use quite a bit of improvement, the handling is horrable, the seats are the most uncomfortable thing Ive ridden in, the front windsheild fogs up evrytime it rains. The only way I feel you can make this car fun to drive, is to modify the hell out of it, start with the suspension.

As a newly married couple, we found the Civic to be a fantastic value. It offers a very smooth ride, great new looks, nice (not great) acceleration and offers a security of reliability that not many other manufacturers can offer. We feel this was a great buy!!

Great fuel economy even for a lead foot. I drive 80 mph 195 mile round trip 5-6 days per week. The car has 207,000 miles. Just had second timing belt installed which included water pump, ouch $$$. The first time didnt include water pump. This vehicle still has the original brakes and clutch, so I’ve saved $$$ there. Suspension has been repaired with aftermarket parts, as further adjustment wasnt available to maintain camber. This car loves tires, Michelins have held up the best over firestone and Goodyear, so thats what I’ll put on next. At 65" 290 lbs I fit better than any other small car. A center armrest would have made this a luxury car for me.

I have had several problems with this car. There are several rattles all thoughout the interior. When I told my dealer about this, he was suprised I only had five or six rattles. The dealer has yet to fix any of the rattles. The car comes equiped with Firestone tires. They are the worst tires ever made. Honda knows about this problem but refuses to change their OEM tire. If you do buy this car, make the dealer install different tires. The sticker says the car should get 32/37 MPG. I am lucky if I get 32MPG in mixed driving. The MPG number are overly optumistic. This is the third Honda I have. This will be the last one.

This car has been trouble free. It is really a treat to have a car that is so reliable and fun to drive. I would recommend this car to anyone that was interested in having an economical, carefree, and enjoyable car to drive.

I dont know what all the bad talk is about this vehicle. We have put nearly 21000 miles on ours since July of 2001 and not had a single problem. The car is very reliable, efficient and fun to drive.

I would have to agree with some of the other reviewers who say that even Honda does not make a perfect car. There are little idiosyncrasies that you have to either get used to or get rid of the car. I guess every rose has its thorn.Last winter we didnt get much s New England. This winter we have. Now I know that my cars trunk is designed to dump any and all precipitation on the top of the trunk directly INTO my trunk when I open it. This is particularly fun when you are coming home with twenty bags of groceries. Because paper bags and water do not like each other very much.

  • A Favorite with Flaws - 2001 Honda Civic

The LX rides well in the city. On country roads and freeways the sound of the road comes through the floor, annyingly so. The body feels as sturdy as a box; it literally feels like a go- kart with panels. Its been quite reliable in terms of the engine, but the body is falling apart. The exterior panels are so thin and the electrical windows are poor in quality; the passenger window sticks in open position when its humid or raining. A fun ride with definite flaws.
