Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • City MPG is AWFUL!! - 2007 Honda Civic
    By -

The fuel mileage stinks! Just drove 257 miles in 3 weeks, all on city streets, mpg was 21.59! With the A/C in the summer Ill be lucky to get 20 mpg!! Keep in mind that my 00 Maxima would get 17.5 in the same situation! Thats 257/11.9=21.59 for the Civic! Highway mileage does better. To San Diego was 34.9 mpg, returning was 31.0 mpg. When gassing up be sure and top- off. The tank will take another 2 gallons after the automatic shut-off! Another problem is AM radio reception. With my other cars I was able to pick- up stations in downtown L.A. beginning in Victorville, Ca., not possible with the Civic. Honda Civic, 30 mpg in the city, what a joke! I would be happy with an honest 25 mpg city.

Excellent first car, tons of fun to drive. VTEC engine is full of pep and after adding a short ram intake sounds amazing. Fuel mileage is great and hardly any problems. I bought it with some mechanical work needed due to overheating but all I need now is to replace the tranny fluid. Great car, Id never buy anything but a Honda(except a stang).

My wife and I were looking for a new car, but Im not partial to investments that lost 25% of their value in the first 10 minutes you own them, so we went with pre-owned. The 2002 Civc is a great car. Fun, stylish, and sexy to drive, its as reliable as it can be -- no problems yet -- and its quite affordable, too. If youre like us, and you want a reliable, affordable car that can comfortably seat 4 or 5 and is fun on the road, look for a Civic.

  • Better MPG - 2004 Honda Civic

Purchased in April 04. Am only getting 36 mpg and have been running AC on Econ. I keep hearing a whizzing sound when I brake. The window on the front passenger side rattles during some turns. The ABS engages on the streets of Dallas (numerous potholes). Stereo weak.

  • A thrilled owner - 2004 Honda Civic

I love my EX coupe, with a spoiler and a sunroof, and alloy rims. Though recently I have had to crank it for 2-3 seconds on a cold start. But mine has 90k miles on her, and i kinda beat the hell out of her for the entire time. And I bought the extended bumper to bumper warranty, so Im not too worried. The seats are great for long trips. Large trunk for an economy car. And Im a college student so that is important. I always tell my friends to buy a Civic. They are the only car that actually lives up to its reputation, for the better

  • Best valued compact - 2012 Honda Civic

This is the second Civic that Ive owned. The first was a 1980 (new) hatchback. These two cars have absolutely nothing in common. On my list was the new Elantra, corolla, Jetta, SX4 sedan and the Mazda 3. I felt that after studing, selecting and judging value, the Civic came out on top. This car drives exceptionally well for a car in its class. I rented an Elantra for 24hrs and was not pleased with the comfort or the ride whatsoever. Not as powerful as the Mazda but again, you cant beat the road manners of the Civic., a real pleasure to drive, in my opinion.

  • Best value for money plus gr8 ride&handling - 2012 Honda Civic

We have been honda customers for a while..own a 99 accord (has crossed 225000 miles) which stills runs nicely and gives 35mileage..had leased 2007 accord which we loved. I recently bought 2012 civic and I love it. Moving from accord to civic may seem like a downgrade, but the priorities have changed, mileage and monthly cost being the top. The other option we considered was prius..But $7-8K additional price gives me -ve NPV over 5years..also I got 0.9 APR from honda financial My new civic gives me avg 42+mileage (I am mostly on freeway)..comfortable and spacious seats (for my 61" hubby too)..smooth ride&handling..

  • Great econo-car - 2009 Honda Civic

Traded down from a 2004 Accord for better mileage so there was a bit of an adjustment there. Seemed very underpowered compared to 2.4 L in the Accord. But for the money, its really hard to beat this car. Like all Hondas, fit and finish is very good. A bit more hard plastic inside than I would like (suffers compared to the Accord) but I like the dash design much better. Arrangement of radio and climate controls nicely done and very ergonomic. Handling is excellent, on par with the Accord, despite the lack of double wishbone. Seats are not nearly as good as the Accords but still not bad. Mileage has been as rated. Noisier than I would like. Overall A- or B+.
