Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Everything I wanted - 2017 Honda Civic

I was looking for a car compact enough to fit in my garage with modern safety technologies like adaptive cruise control (coming to a complete stop) and lane keep assist. Went for the EX-T with the sensing package. Wanted the extra oomph, so got the turbo. The higher fuel economy is a plus. The overall buying experience was great. I got an internet quote from Walnut Creek Honda. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. * Likes: Great balance of ride and handling. Looks great on the outside and inside. Sensing package. Roomy front, rear seats, and trunk. Great road and wind noise isolation. Good fuel economy. Android auto. * Dislikes: CVT not good for spirited driving but great for fuel economy. Noisy under acceleration, engine sound in the cabin is not pleasant to hear. Front seats can be more comfortable. Miss the volume knob. The thin cloth fabric looks cheap. Sometimes, I need to plug in the phone twice for Android auto, I think it is because it routes the phone via Bluetooth and audio via the cable. Overall great job, Honda. Thanks for listening to customers and come up with such a nice car for the price.

Best decision I ever made. My 4-dr AT Civic EX is wonderfully designed, very responsive, every detail is carefully attended to. Its absolutely the best car in the world. I had my heart set on a Toyota, but no more. I consistently get 38 mpg. I do a lot of highway and city driving and 38 mpg is wonderful! I cant stress how happy I am with this car.

Problems: Air bag light problem; light stays on when car is turned off for five minutes and then restarted. Need to replace module. Serious static from radio when rear window defroster is activated, unless radio station is very nearby. Hesitatioin when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Otherwise, love the car!

  • Good car but not for me - 2000 Honda Civic

I have nothing against my Si. Its a quick little car but there are a few things i dont like about it. First off, if youre not shifting every 2 seconds you will find yourself winding every gear out to almost 5k rpms. You almost need to do this with the lack of torque that the Si has. My 92 Sentra SE-R(151k miles) is so much more enjoyable to drive and picks up a lot better around town. If I had to do it over again I would have just bought the sentra and saved the other 15 grand I wasted.

  • 5 months on - 2006 Honda Civic

Weve had our 2006 EX sedan (manual trans) for 5 months now. Gas mileage in town runs 35-38 mpg, and on trips where I can use the cruise control weve gotten over 43 honest to God mpg with the A/C on all the time. --On regular gas mind you, and no pokin along, either. Im talkin 75-80 miles per hour cruise (here in Mexico thats pretty standard highway speed). I also cant believe the NYT reviewer actually drove the car and complained about the acceleration - the car does 0-60 in about 8 & 1/2 seconds. That wont intimidate any Maserati owners, but itstill quicker than 90% of everything else on the road.

  • Incredible car - 1999 Honda Civic

I have had this car for over a year now and it currently has over 185k on it. Six mo. after getting it my brother got the tail end hit by a truck and bent the frame but I didnt know until 2 mo. later when I was working on the dent. It still handled great and I found it had been in at least 2 more unreported accidents but you couldnt tell from driving. I even put it in a ditch and a 4 wheel alignment later it drove just like before. I had a minor electrical issue that no one but the Honda people could find, but other than that no problems(it will drive 100mi w/o alternator w/ 5spd, nothing on, and starting twice). Amazing car and I will be sorry to see it go to get a lower mileage one.

  • Civic is best among all Sedans - 1999 Honda Civic

I have owned Nissan Maxima, Toyota Camry and Honda Civic. Civic is the best in terms of reliability, maintenance, gas mileage etc. I get 36 miles per gallon in city and 40 miles per gallon on highways. Very happy to own Civic in this high gas prices era. My next car would be Honda Civic Hybrid. Period

  • Do some of you test drive first??? - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

I was just curious to know if the people who wrote about how much noise the civic makes ever test drove the car before buying???? It only makes sense that you would, and then to not notice that it supposedly has horrible noise issues???? I suspect some posts may be from the same people.

    Great car for the money.

  • nice - 1999 Honda Civic

Havent had any mechanical problems. The only things Ive replaced so far besides the wiper blades are the front brakes and the tires. Those were both done after 40,000. It takes off pretty good and sounds great. Of course great gas mileage which is a plus when gas prices rise. Overall, Id buy it again.
