This Year's Model Updates:

Marking the changes for the 2009 Honda Civic are a slight nose and tail job, new wheel designs, a pair of new trim levels (LX-S and DX Value Package) and a number of high-tech enhancements (including Bluetooth availability and a USB audio input).

Pros:
  • Wide-ranging engine lineup offers both fuel efficiency and performance, roomy and refined interior, strong crash test scores, available as a sedan or coupe.
Cons:
  • Controversial gauge cluster design, Bluetooth and stability control only available on upper trims, slow acceleration times of Hybrid and GX models.

  • Nice but gas mileage better on my 1999! - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

This car is nice looking, it is comfortable and the interior is a lot of bang for the buck considering the price. However, I do feel the engine is lacking a big, at only 2,500 miles I already feel a little idle rumble when I start the car and its not nearly as good on gas as my 99 Civic EX which I also still have. Thats a big disappointment to me. The brakes also seem like they are working super hard all the time and they make an awful noise when breaking on any type of hill. I dont believe they are going to last too long. Those are my only gripes, its a nice little car.

  • So Far, So Good ! - 2009 Honda Civic

After owning over a dozen American Made cars, this is my first Honda. The first thing I noticed was how "solid" the car felt. Looks like a small car on the outside, but inside it looks alot bigger than it actually is. Nice expansive interior. Layout of dash/interior very user friendly. Everything easy to reach and use. Wide front view while driving, no blind spots. Very comfortable seating & alot of room to spare & Im 6 1". The LX automatic is nicely equipped already. Im adding blue interior lighting under the dash areas. Gas mileage is outstanding! 31 mpg in the city-so far. Advertised 28. If this car lives up to its past proven record while I own it, Im buying another Honda later on!

First Honda. Had a Matrix before this. Love the look of this car and the way it drives. Antilock brakes occasionally feel "crunchy." Auto transmission doesnt always shift smoothly. Axle nut loose after 6000 miles. Do not like the auto up windows or the seat belt alarm that takes forever to go off. (I know, I know, its illegal to not wear a seatbelt!) 35 mpg hwy is great. Not so good city driving. About 24 mpg. Combo driving is still good. Ride is hard but will try the lower tire pressure.

  • Love to drive - 2009 Honda Civic

I recently bough this car a month ago and already drove around 1.4K. Highway mileage is great, I got like 33 mph with air conditioner on. City mileage is not so good though, I am making only 22-23 mph. One of the reasons might be the fact that I usually have to drive in heavy traffic, go little and stop again. Road noise sometime can be a little excessive. Even a little bit of uneven road surface can cause uncomfortably loud grinding noise coming from suspension. Other than the noise problem, the car runs smooth. Always fun to drive. I even sometime intentionally miss the exit on the way to work just because I couldnt get enough of driving this car. Love both interior and exterior.

  • 5th Civic, 1st Hybrid - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

This is my first hybrid, but 5th Honda Civic. I briefly left the brand for a 2008 MINI Cooper S, but quickly returned to Honda. The quality of the car/pieces in my opinion or better then most luxury vehicles. Compared to my MINI without the sport package the ride in the Hybrid is quite and heavenly! The Hybrid in real world driving handles far better then my Cooper S. In the MINI hitting uneven pavement jerked the car around. The Hybrid hangs on to the curves with the same go-for-itness and absorbs bumps without drama. Per the OBC I avg 31 MPG in the Cooper S, the first week I got 45.7 MPG in the Hybrid. None of my Civics have left me stranded. This is why I returned back to Honda.

  • Aimed To Please - 2009 Honda Civic

After having my 2009 Honda Civic LX-S for less than a week, I can say that Im really happy with the purchase. The ride is smooth, so far it handles very well, the MPG are great (although I havent filled up yet). Also, the interior is laid out very well. Everything you need and very easy to use. Im a big fan of the black interior with the leather wrapped steering wheel in the LX-S model. I would advise anyone who buys the LX-S to buy the fog lights as an add-on, as they add a pop to the car. Also, this car looks so much better in person than in the pictures. In pictures this vehicle does not stand out, but in the road it does. Very happy with this car.

  • Fun Ride with Good Mileage - 2009 Honda Civic

I really like the dashboard layout. Having the digital speedometer on the second tier, I would actually consider a safety feature. It allows me to keep my eyes more on the road, by not having to look down as far to see my speed. I love the black seating in the LX-S, but as others have stated, it does attract the lint. Really love the gas mileage and the handling. It has the typical Honda suspension that you feel the road bumps and hear the road noise. It is fun to drive. Great visibility all around.

  • Awesome car!!! - 2009 Honda Civic

Ive had my 2009 EX for 3 months now and love it! Much more comfortable than the Corolla that I used to have. No complaints from me. There are times when I start it up it takes a couple of extra seconds to get the engine running. Ive discovered if I park on the smallest hill sometimes theres a clunking noise as I shift from P to R, also there are times when I shift from R to D Ive noticed the engine accelerates a little as the tachometer indicates, but other than those minor things the 09 Civic is definitely an awesome car to own!!!

  • Luxurious Hybrid - 2009 Honda Civic

I have owned this car for 7 weeks now, and I couldnt be happier with it! Averaging a legitimate 47.55 mpg through 7 fill-ups. I commute 90 miles rnd trip every weekday, and I have yet to regret anything about this car. We have driven it on 2 weekend trips, and the only complaint my wife has raised is that its "smaller than" her Altima. I agree with that statement, but have to say the HCH is much better looking and more comfortable, too. The style of the HCH is head-and-shoulders above the Prius, IMHO. It is a fun, fuel- efficient car. It is NOT a sports car.

  • Worst car I have ever owned - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

This vehicle, my 3rd new car and my 7th car overall, has required more preventative maintenance and more repair than all my other vehicles combined. I have had to had the transmission rebuilt every 65k miles. This vehicle is not modified (minus rims, which were only added 8k miles ago) nor ever been taken to a track or ridden hard but the transmission has utterly failed multiple times. The paint (which is covered by warranty) peeled off the car within 65k miles as well, requiring a piece-meal repair job resulting in a vehicle which is now multiple shades of blue. The interior, which is this soft-touch foam/plastic combo, cuts easily from any impact leaving scars all over the interior and the pseudo-suede used on the seats and arm rests easily gunks up in high-humidity resulting in a filthy-even-when-clean appearance. The performance leaves much to be desired, as there is ZERO clutch-feel and the throttle is unresponsive and "mushy". The steering does respond well with wider tires, but the stock tires sizes were appalling. Moderate acceleration resulted in a burn-out in first and second didnt have the power to pull you from a stop. The tires themselves, even after twice-a-year alignments, never lasted longer than 30k miles per set (typically 22k) because of Hondas drastic negative camber recommendations for rear-wheel alignment.
