This Year's Model Updates:

Marking the changes for the 2009 Honda Civic are a slight nose and tail job, new wheel designs, a pair of new trim levels (LX-S and DX Value Package) and a number of high-tech enhancements (including Bluetooth availability and a USB audio input).

Pros:
  • Wide-ranging engine lineup offers both fuel efficiency and performance, roomy and refined interior, strong crash test scores, available as a sedan or coupe.
Cons:
  • Controversial gauge cluster design, Bluetooth and stability control only available on upper trims, slow acceleration times of Hybrid and GX models.

  • One recommendation not mentioned... - 2009 Honda Civic

The car is pretty everything everyone says it is. It is my 5th Civic and so far, the best of them all. One thing I can attest to is the ride quality if your lower the air pressure by two pounds. It calls for 32psi, but at that level the ride is rather stiff. If you lower the air pressure down to 30psi, you will find the ride quality greatly improved without a loss in fuel economy. Since these tires do not last for much more than 30K, you will not lose any wear in dropping the pressure by 2 pounds. It will make a huge difference in the ride quality. Try it and you will see for yourself.

The Civic Si is a terrific car if you like the sound of a boomy exhaust, sharp handling, a high revving engine, and straight line quickness "on-tap." The dual personality of this vehicle is what sets it apart from other vehicles in its class (Mazda 3 speed, GTI, Mini S etc..). If you want a high mileage economy car, you can simply shift sooner (go slower) and get very good mileage (I get 24-25 in city). If you want to have some fun, just slam the gas and let the car rev. Once you hit 5000 rpm you start to grin (its unavoidable). Either way, this car is a lot of fun. On the other hand, if you like a soft, smooth and quiet auto, the SI is not for you.

  • First and Last Civic - 2009 Honda Civic

Im a long time manual transmission driver and after an extensive search thought Id found the perfect car. This car had the style and comfort unmatched in its price and class. However, after two weeks of driving this vehicle the transmission started to get very notchy in second gear especially when cold. Once winter hit the problem became noticeably worse to the point that it actually jumped out of second gear on several occasions. By mid-winter I didnt want to drive this car anymore. I took it to the dealer but they could not duplicate the issue when the engine/trans was warm and they checked and flushed the trans fluid. I traded this car after 4 months and couldnt be happier.

  • Hot buy si - 2009 Honda Civic

Thrilled every time Im behind the wheel of my redline orange si. Nowadays, I look for every opportunity to run errands. Not only is driving a manual again after a decades hiatus great fun, but doing so in this pocket rocket is even more exhilarating. Still under the 600 mile break in period, so I rarely take the rpm above 6000 rpm, yet still, this machine shows tremendous spunk off the starting block. Was close to getting a Civic EX coupe but am so relieved I followed my heart (instead of pocket- book) to settle for this Si coupe. For three grand more, I know I got a car that stirs excitement and delivers both reliability and fun.

  • No remote trunk access on LX? - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought my Civic LX two weeks ago and am generally very pleased with it. BUT, I am disappointed that Honda has not entered the 21st century along with Saturn and other cars by providing remote trunk access with their Civic LX. The apparent reason: to provide a disincentive to buy the LX, and push you to buy an EX for $2000 more. So, if you have kids, if you shop and appreciate easy trunk access as you lug items to the car, buy another car. Is remote trunk access worth $2000? Not in my book. Next car will be a Toyota.

  • A great car - 2009 Honda Civic

My wife and I just purchased our Civic DX-VP yesterday. I had looked at a Toyota Yaris as my commuter car, but was able to buy the Civic for just $25/month more than the subcompact Yaris (comparing 60 month loans), and the Civic is a MUCH better car. The DX-VP does not have power locks, but it does have air conditioning and a good sound system, as well as power windows. This car is all Honda. Great styling, great engine, great historic reliability for the Civic sedans. I expect to be driving this car 15 years from now.

  • Luv my Civic - 2009 Honda Civic

After driving the Chevy Cobalt, Corolla and Aveo I tried this car and there is no comparison hands down, the Civic won me over. I have had no problems at all. Very little road noise. This car is sharp inside and out and excellent on gas. Very solid and stable performance. Im looking for reasons to drive it. This is my first non GM car and now I see why GM is slipping. Only Honda for me from now on. The A/c will freeze you out!

  • Most car for the money - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

This is my third Honda, and all have been amazingly reliable. Not all of them have been fun to drive, however. My new Si takes the fun level off the scale compared to most other Hondas. Are there faster cars? Yes. Are there better handling cars? Yes. Can you get any of these other cars for under $19,200? No chance. The closest car that I found would have been almost $6000 more than the Civic. Its an amazing car for the money. Be careful when reading other reviews, as most of the people driving the Civic Si are younger drivers. The one reviewer complaining about a vibration in the brakes is describing the activation of the ABS system. Without it he would have been in a skid.

  • Civic - 2009 Honda Civic

This is absolutely the best car. The car not only looks great, but it is very comfortable to ride and drive. It has so many nice features inside the vehicle. If you are still not sure if you want to buy a civic, think no more, go for it, you will not regret it.

  • Do your home work - 2009 Honda Civic

Ive always liked the Honda Civic. Its got great looks and the mag tests say it sets the standards for other small cars to match but Im disappointed. The road noise in the cabin is just horrible with the Civic and for me its really a big distraction thats keeping me from enjoying this car. Too much gear whine from the drivetrain too. Road noise in the cabin is the biggest flaw with this car. I like the rest of the car, but its not really any better than the other cars in its class and you pay more for a Honda and get less features for your money compared to say a Toyota. The Civic is a nice car, but its a noisy car and pricey for what you get. Do you homework before you buy.
