Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • 12 years and still going strong - 1996 Honda Civic

I had this car given to me as a gift it had 28,000 kms at the time I have had it 3 years and 50,000 kms later and all I have done is change the oil every 5,000 kms new front brakes and tires. I am impressed it never breaks down. It is fun to drive and it has a lot of pep for an engine and car of its size I am also impressed with its safety. I was in an accident last year with it. I hit another car head on driving 80 kmh and did not even suffer any injuries and my car was fixable. After that experience I feel very safe in my car. Over all I think Honda has built a great quality vehicle with this car.

  • Best Car Ever!!! - 1991 Honda Civic

I had this car since I was 16 yrs old bought it for about $9,000 out the door. It was only a standard but really love it for the reliability because I never replace the starter yet and all my parts for the most part is lifetime. It finally seized up on my on 03-21-08 now put a ZC in engine from Japan and runs excellent will keep this car forever. This car was worth buying and Honda should make a newer model with the same engine because the price on gas is just going up and if I didnt have this Civic I will be broke. I put si seats from the junkyard and got it upholstered and now its leather and hugs my body while I am driving so if you want a reliable car this car is the best ever...

  • Great Little Car, Cheap to Own - 1998 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought my 98 EX last Sept. from my old roommate in college--he bought it new and at 79,300 miles, runs great. He maintained it very well and soon after I got it, the battery died (original), and the muffler rusted out. Other than that, no problems--AC is cold and heater is hot and everything works. I consistently get about 33 mpg highway and around 30-31 combined in my driving cycle. While its not a sports car, it is cheap to maintain and easy to work on. The engine will outlast the rest of it.

  • Loving my new Honda - 2008 Honda Civic

After 4 months of research and looking at the Fit, Yaris, Prius, Corolla, Elantra and Sentra. This was our best financial decision when factoring safety, cost to own, and fuel economy. I love the fact that oil changes are at 10,000 mile intervals. I considered a hybrid, but an oil change for that in Austin is about $50. Factoring the extra $8k, this was more economical, yet still providing excellent fuel economy. I really enjoy my new civic. I only wish I had purchased it sooner.

  • MPG happy - 2008 Honda Civic

We bought this car after driving everything under 20K. It was by far the best driving car and priced perfect. My son is 62" and we had buy something that would fit him in the backseat. The car turns on a dime, doesnt sway when you get passed by a tractor-trailer on the interstate and has plenty of get up and go!

  • great car and affordable - 2016 Honda Civic

I really like the Civic from this year. The car drives great and has a ton of trunk space. The entertainment system mostly works all the time, but theres a few glitches with the OS sometimes and the volume button is annoying, but easy to get used to.

  • Frequent FAILS!!!! - 2008 Honda Civic

Struts are horrible. Repeatedly fix and you still hear a click with turns. Transmission sucks with jerky shifts till it give out and then it has nerve to cost $3000 to fix.

  • A Civic will always be a Civic - 2005 Honda Civic
    By -

For all of those who are looking for the "pin you in your seat performance" this car is not for you period. If you think about it most Civics have mostly been an easy going and reliable family car, this lives up to it. You get great gas mileage, and it seems pretty safe, but under the hood there is not much to be proud of. The interior is quite nice, I love the dials, and the from the outside the new look is pretty darn stunning. So like I said before a Civic will always be a Civic so besides the great reliability and gas mileage dont expect this car to blow you away.
