This Year's Model Updates:

In typical Honda fashion, the Civic receives a number of minor changes this year in order to keep it fresh. For the coupe and sedan, there's new exterior styling, including restyling for the front and rear bumpers, hood, headlights and grille. Inside, the audio speakers have been upgraded, extra sound deadening material has been added and floor mats are now standard in the LX and EX. The LX trim has slightly bigger wheels this year (15 inches) and standard keyless entry. A new value package contains air conditioning, a CD player and a new center console. For the Si hatchback, there are new headlight and taillight designs, larger 16-inch wheels and flashier interior trim. Like the regular sedan, the Civic Hybrid has updated styling, standard floor mats and improved speakers. It also has a new interior console with an armrest, adjustable rear headrests and a manual driver-seat height adjuster. Finally, all 2004 Honda Civic sedans and coupes have a new seatbelt reminder system.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability and quality, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Top-of-the-line models are pricey, antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

Excellent ride and handling. Very good acceleration. Rear seating OK for kids, but cramped for adults.

  • Slightly biased opinion ... - 2004 Honda Civic

Im a bit biased since Ive owned several Honda vehicles previously but ... so far, its been a joy to drive. Ive always loved the soft clutch on Honda cars, theres enough zip in the engine for most purposes, handling and ride are great, and its hard to beat the mpg. Its more expensive than the competitors but its worth it--just make sure you pit one dealership to another for best price. I think EX is worth the price especially if you can get it for around $16K (dealer invoice).

I have owned a BMW before I can attest to the fact having a reliable car is more important than having an fancier car. This car is a very simple car thus everything works as advertised. I have owned this car for almost 3-yrs now and I havent had a single mechanical problem. Also trade-in value of this car is about $11000 even though I only paid $14500 for it about 3-yrs ago. This is not a performance car but it is an everyday winner. You can easily own this car for 10-yr worry free with regular interval oil-change and stuff. Just remember Hondas specialty is engines and these things live forever. I just love Hondas.

  • I LOVE THIS CAR! - 2004 Honda Civic

The 2004 Honda Civic EX couple has been my stalwart baby car, the first I ever purchased on my own. Shes dependable, very economical and never had a problem with her. I have maintained her exactly according to the recommendations in the owners manual and she performs like a champ day after day. Whether in the city or on a road trip, shes a dream. I highly recommend this car. The only reason I even consider moving on (to another Honda, of course) is because its a two-door coupe and my family is expanding. This car is a single person car and super fun to drive!

  • You Should Get One, Too. - 2004 Honda Civic

An excellent car, except when the AUTO ENGINE stops (AUTO STOP), the car stalls momentarily, which causes a confusion. But if you are driving a long distance, the vehicle is very comfortable and environmentally sound. I love my Hybrid. I wish more dealers did advertise Hybrid cars on TV. Unfortunately, I rarely see their ads pertaining to Hybrid cars.

  • Gas Champion - 2004 Honda Civic

this miracle of creation is great. Superb gas mileage, stealthy silent ride both in traffic and at stops. Silky smooth transmission. Great sound system, good performace and great acceleration for a small low horse power car. The quality of the car is A+ and everyone knows Hondas make superior cars. Most mechanics have told me they make the best transmissions unlike most GM and american cars.

  • Worth Every Penny - 2004 Honda Civic

Paid $100 under Edumunds invoice, and it was worth every cent. You can tell this car was made by people who take pride in their work--not some typical union shop like Dodge who doesnt give 2 hoots about quality. The drivers side arm rest is awkward, and the stereo is a bit hard to see, but awesome car, fun to drive. Car insurance was reasonable too. You will not be disappointed.

  • My old chevy pickup runs better - 2004 Honda Civic

I bought this car as a comuter back and forth from la to san francisco and am not pleased. I bought the car with 300 miles and now have nearly 92,000 miles on it. 85% highway. I was driving around napa valley and my steering started to make noise and wobble so i pulled over and found my steering knuckles came out at 5k. My radiator leaked at 15k, rear brakes failed at 25 and luckily tranny went right before warranty at 34,650. My gas mileage is good but reliability is flimsy, build quality is cheap. Ive replaced the axles twice since out of warranty, brakes once, stereo went twice and then decided to add new one.. Not impressed with honda product

  • Reliable Honda - 2004 Honda Civic

The Honda Civic really is the best value. I wish it had more horsepower. However, horsepower or not, in a few years it will be worth more than all other 2004s in its class.

  • Fun Spunky Car - 2004 Honda Civic

The speedometer display is easy to read day or night. I like the spunky engine and smooth quiet ride. The gas mileage is great! In one week I drove over 200 miles with more than 1/4 tank of gas left. The drivers seat is adjustable enough for me to reach the pedals and look over the dash (Im 5). My 63" husband is able to drive this car comfortably. Adults fit in the back with plenty of knee room. The a/c, defroster, heat and audio controls are easy to reach and operate. The a/c cools the whole car. The defroster automatically turns off. A standard feature is cruise control. I strongly recommend this car for performance, comfort, size and quality.
