This Year's Model Updates:

Marking the changes for the 2009 Honda Civic are a slight nose and tail job, new wheel designs, a pair of new trim levels (LX-S and DX Value Package) and a number of high-tech enhancements (including Bluetooth availability and a USB audio input).

Pros:
  • Wide-ranging engine lineup offers both fuel efficiency and performance, roomy and refined interior, strong crash test scores, available as a sedan or coupe.
Cons:
  • Controversial gauge cluster design, Bluetooth and stability control only available on upper trims, slow acceleration times of Hybrid and GX models.

  • Is A/C on all the time - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

Just noticed the Civics A/C does turn on without my command. The A/C fan turn on first in the morning when I start my car (the command button is OFF and it is not at ON state). Then after some driving, park on driveway, see water drops on driveway (just exactly like when A/C is on in hot Summertime). Then noticed from time to time, I can feel there is cool air blow out and status shown is OFF state. All of all, convinced me that the A/C is some ON all the time. Is any other owner having similar experience? There are annoying rattle sound from the roof and/or dashboard in Winter. Reported to the dealer but the excuses is have to wait for the time when it reoccurs again - next Winter

  • Driving Performance Stinks - 2009 Honda Civic

My car is 18 months old and I have had multiple problems. First, my check engine light kept coming on. It made the car miss when accelerating and almost caused several accidents on major highway because of this. It also disengaged my cruise control, so it did not work. They told me it was not covered under the warranty, so I had to pay for repairs. Now, it is making a horrible clicking sound every time I put my foot on or take off the gas pedal. I wish I would have never bought this car. It is nothing but problems. What a waste of money.

  • Our worst (and last) Honda ever - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

Honda owners since 99. That all changed about 3 wks ago when my wife was driving our 2 daughters to dance recital about 10 mi from our house. 2-3 mi before arriving, my wife began hearing a terrible grinding noise from the front- end. It sounded like something was dragging. It turned out to be metal on metal front brakes. No warning sign that we were in need of brakes before that night. When she arrived the wheels were too hot to touch. Next day Honda service said we needed front brakes. Duh. They said exp brake life was 15- 20k! Our 04 Pilot weighs 2x as much and we went 50k before needing brakes. Do your research on Honda Civic brake problems. We are picking up Mazda3 today. Honda lost a customer forever.

  • Hybrid Good and Bad - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

The ONLY reason to even consider the Civic Hybrid is for the great gas mileage. You must drive it differently, pay attention and respond to what the instant mpg gauge and battery gauges tell you. Learning to anticipate lights, allow some slowing on hills, feathering the gas, avoiding the use of brakes and staying at the speed limit yield great results. No lead foot gas use, wont go fast anyhow. Winter driving conditions and sloppy driving habits destroy mpg. Large interior, but VERY noisy and not comfortable after a couple hours. Cheaped out on auto on head lights, dash layout, seat adjusters and tires. Did I say it was NOISY? First, and LAST, Honda.

  • Vibration at idle - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

Since i purchased my civic i have noticed vibration at idle worse with the A/C on. I have been to the 2 dealers about 10 times with this complaint and there has only been 1 update that did not rectify the problem. The vibration is apparent when the A/C compressor engages at the same time as the cooling fans kick-in.

  • Dont waste money, buy straight gas engine - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

Well I have had this car for one year, the only savings I can figure out is mileage, I dont drive it much because it not comfortable, visibility is poor and braking at low speeds it surges as it jumps into coast mode and gas engine shuts off. Therefore the saving is I stay home more. I leased through Honda so I am stuck with it for two more years. Driving in Florida where its as flat as a pancake, around town, Ft Myers area I get a whooping 33 mpg. I took it to east coast and back got around 47 tops. Excuse down here is they use to much ethanol in gas. Its no better than a regular Civic , only less power, dont waste your money, no real saving.

  • Disapointing Honda - 2009 Honda Civic

Learned that if youre not careful w/tire rotation and alignment on the dot, your front tires will not last more than 8k!

  • Disgusted with Honda - 2009 Honda Civic

I will never buy another Honda. Honda ought to be embarrassed to have their name on this car. Although I just bought the car last year, I have had it at the dealership to have numerous flaws repaired or replaced under the warranty: (1)windshield replaced due to distortions (2) door handles and side mirrors replaced due to the lack of quality paint job (3) front and rear bumpers painted due to lack of quality paint job (4) the regulators in the front doors had to be replaced when the windows stopped going down all the way and (5) the moldings that cover-up the front side airbags show gaps when it should be flush mounted.

  • Big Disappointment - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

Well if your in the market for hybrid, I dont think Honda has its act together. The performance is not any better than a civic, maybe a couple MPGs. Its under powered, I dont know what the eclectic motor does, seems nothing to me. They only way you save any money on gas in town driving is when you stop the gas engine stops, thats about it.

  • Battery Problems - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

With less than 4500 miles, twice my IMA and check engine light came on. The first time they replaced the battery, second time had to do some updates (there is a TSB out regarding the problem). I like the better mileage 37- 38 but was hoping I would get more MPG. I drive mostly in the city. It takes a long time, 5 to 10 minutes of driving time, for the heat to get warm. When going from a full stop, 5-7 seconds to get going.
