Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

The civic SI is a great value. You cant beat this fun-to-drve coupe in terms of its combination of economy, performance and reliability. I highly recommend it.

  • Great Car! - 2000 Honda Civic

I love my civic! It is spunky and has great torque for being a 4 cyl. I always get compliments for the sharpness of the gas and the incredible feel of the brake system. Wonderful car! Only major problem was with exhaust manifold, but a great dealership replaced it for free because it was a recall on many civics (you can look up the vin to see if it qualifies).

First honda. Very pleased with design and interior, excellent futuristic looks. Interior nice but coming from an Audi A6 nothing special. MPG not high as expected. Avg is 36.2 perhaps its colder weather and New Engand hills and I have yet to see my car run totally electric while under 35mph. Nicks already in body because I cant see rear end or hood. I enjoy driving this car but I miss a powerful engine, Cant say Ill be driving another honda car after this.

  • Civic Hybrid - Elegant & Thrifty - 2008 Honda Civic

Having driven both, and now owning the Civic for a few weeks, I think the Civic Hybrid beats the Prius in roominess, handling and performance, with no penalty in gas mileage. This is a stylish, comfortable car that requires no sacrifice and pays dividends at the gas pump, and to the environment. This car replaced a 2005 CR-V, which I loved, but my gasoline consumption is down 50%. Way to go Honda!

Much larger than what one thinks of in a Civic.

  • Ten years and still good - 1998 Honda Civic

I bought this car new in 1998 and am surprised at how well it has stood up. Things Ive replaced are the timing beltx2, starter, front brake pads (rear drums are original!), water pump, muffler and fluids. Stuff I would expect to replace on a ten year old car. It is just a reliable car that is a bit underpowered but is easy on fuel. I prefer the styling of the hatch and wish the newest hatch would come to north America. The hatch fits a 36" CRT TV.

  • Make sure you have a Warranty! - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought this car in April 08, within a 14 months I had to return the car 4 times to the dealer. Twice to have the front driver and then the front passenger windows replaced because the original ones were defective and wouldnt close. Then I had trouble with the IMA (the Hybrid Technology), the IMA stopped working, when that happens you do not get the power assist from the electric motor, when that happens the car has all the power of a go-cart. Super dangerous when that happens on the freeway. Thankfully the warranty covered the work which would have been over $2500 for each IMA failure. The emergency brake is positioned in such a way that it jabs into the drivers leg, not comfortable.

  • 284,200 miles of civic HX quality - 1996 Honda Civic

It averages out to 23,683 mi/yr. crazy, huh? went through 1 month of self troubleshooting w/ egr and related systems, spent near $500 total incl getting the engines cooling channels (in the block) cleaned, 3 yrs ago. AVERAGED 43 mpg first 3-4 yrs, dropped to 40/41 next several yrs, the egr killed to 30-32, the fix brought it back to 35-37 mpg. The CVT tranny has been going out for, no b.s., the last 34k miles! I am STILL getting 35-37 mpg! The NEW Civics barely get this let alone any other domestic name out there. I wish I could of had the veh before or after this one from the production line and stored to drive it when this veh finally finds the big garage in the sky.

  • My Civic - 2006 Honda Civic

I must share performance of this vehicle. I drive 108 miles back and forth each day from New Braunfels to Austin TX. I average ~70 Mile MPH and I get GREAT mileage. Today I filled up with 10.1 gallons and drove 418.9 miles which equals 41.47 MPG. This is in 100+ degree with aircon on. You talk about hybrids, this vehicle beats them when you compare cost over performance. I do not understand why Honda does not push this car?

  • Forget the LX/EX, get the Si! - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

Let me start by saying I currently also own an 07 civic coupe ex. Also owned an 07 civic hybrid. Traded in the hybrid for the Si after 9 months of driving boredom. Had a modified 350hp awd car prior, and thought I was over the performance bug. Well, the Si is quick enough to satisfy your desires for speed, without giving you much more than that. Its now the cheapest of the viable sport compact offerings, yet yields the best MPG, and lowest sticker price. Handling is also great and significantly better than the ex. The ex was just as much better than the civic hybrid. I put on lightweight wheels and tires and got noticeable improvement in acceleration. City/Hwy MPG has been around 25/30.
