Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Great Gas Saver - 2008 Honda Civic

We sold out Mitsubishi Evolution in an effort to decrease our car payment and decrease our gas consumption. The civic seemed like the obvious winner in our minds. We wanted a bigger vehicle (Accord or Acura TL) but their real world gas mileage isnt that great. We settled with the smaller civic and are very happy. The leather is great and Im sure the heated seats will be nice this winter. We started around 32-33 MPG and the last 2 tanks have been 35+. We drive 85% highway @ 80 MPH. The engine power isnt bad considering we live +7k feet elevation. It should be more than adequate everywhere else in the country. Maybe not as quick as the competitors (mazda3) but a great car!

  • Expensive for its class, still a value - 2000 Honda Civic

Excellent ride for a car this size, quite supple yet controlled. Power steering a bit overboosted. Engine doesnt have much grunt down low but gets with the program over 3000 rpm. Engine is also quite smooth and car gets excellent gas mileage. No mechanical difficulties to date, though I do hear a noise when shiftin when cold (Im going to get this checked out). Other cars in this class may be cheaper, but this one is well-executed and retains value so its still a great choice.

  • Gobs of Fun To Drive - 2009 Honda Civic

Have the car for 7 months, for the price no other car company can match it for performance, styling, fun meter level. The Civic-EX isnt even close in matching the Sis performance... no auto tranny may be the reason for not getting Si for many buyers. About 6.6 seconds to 60 mph with a 4 cyl. engine (no turbo), and only 197 hp, 139 ft.lbs of torque! Im getting about 25 mpg overall with about 60% city driving. You have to rev this car above 6k rpm to find its "sweet" spot. If you want less 4.0 sec to 60 mph, then buy a Vette for $80+K! One car magazine rates it #17 for the most fun to drive for ALL cars on the road (including BMW, Audi, etc.) that are priced 2x+ the Sis sticker.

  • 2003 EX Civic Sedan w/ side airbags - 2003 Honda Civic

I bought my new Honda about a month ago and am just loving it. I was debating between the Corolla and the Civic, and almost went with the corolla until I researched this website. I had thought the corolla would be cheaper but it wasnt. Plus, the civics features were much better...the one thing that sold me was the fact that the civics interior was way more roomy and comfortable for me and my passengers.

  • Think twice - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

I am already making plans to get rid of this car. Think twice before buying if your 54" or under. I have adjusted this car nonstop since I got it and cant find a comfortable fit. The head rest juts out into the seating area so if youre short, your head hits it nonstop. I finally pulled the headrest off. Now its comfortable but I dont feel safe. This is my fourth Honda Civic and the only one I wouldnt recommend.

  • Really enjoyed this 2 door EX Coupe - 2003 Honda Civic

I had my Honda Civic for 5 years but just recently sold it so I could get a 4 door (got little kids). The car was very, very reliable and I only had a little over 51,000 miles on it. I never had any mechanical problems with it the whole time (knock on wood). I always changed the oil (myself) every 5,000 miles and made sure to change Air Filter (15,000 miles). I made sure to check the tires monthly as well. I got anywhere from 32-33 mpg around town with some highway driving. For straight highway trips I averaged around 36 on the last one. If you take care of this little baby it will take care of you. If you decide to sell your Civic, sell it out right as the dealerships will hose you.

  • Great Little Car For Sure! - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Leased in 2006 and best decision I ever made. Had an oil leak in the first week of leasing but Honda was fantastic in replacing with all new parts and havent had ANY problems since. Mileage is great and this car handles like a charm. Highly recommend a civic to anyone who wants fuel efficiency, a reliable vehicle and doesnt cost an arm and leg.

  • Bad Design for a Hybrid vehicle - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I am traveling salesmen. I drive 40K miles per year. So, I figured I would help mother earth and my pocket book. Bought a used HCH hybrid. Great car I thought. When I purchased this car, I was getting 47+ MPG. I have owned for 8 months, and then all the sudden my MPG goes to 36 MPG. I take to dealer and they tell me it is the heat. Well I have driven this car 26K miles in the past 8 months. I told them it was funny that it worked fine, and then all the sudden crappie MPG. They said that the heat or a bad battery was the problem. Ask them is their a test for the battery? Answer No! Seems funny they can tell me the IMA is fine, but they can not tell me the battery has a bad cell.
