Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

I bought it new and its been very reliable, fuel efficient, fun to drive (5 spd) and looks great too. I expect to keep it for at least another 5-6 years. I have read other reviews saying that there is a troublesome blind spot, but I havent noticed it. Just adjust your mirrors people. google search "12 Steps to Rid Yourself of the Blindspot in Your Sideview Mirrors"

The Civic Hatch is a great option if you want good fuel economy, power, eye-catching styling, and the versatility of an SUV in a compact package. My EX-L w/nav averages 39 mpg and has plenty of power. My only complaint, after owning several SUVs, is getting in and out of it isnt as easy, but if youre used to a car, it isnt an issue. The interior quality is excellent--great finishes, but I would recommend either getting the leather (EX-L) or getting an after-market kit with leather for the door inserts and the center console; the EX I test drove was already showing smudges on the cloth in those areas. I think the cloth seats would hold up fine, though. The leather package is the same as the CR-V Touring package and looks great. Interior ride is quiet and comfortable. The car handles great and is fun to drive.

I cant say enough good things about this car. It makes me wanna drive!! Its roomy, quiet and has an overall quality feel about it that I just didnt see/feel in the cars competitors. It handles well and the ride for a small car is very smooth. Its also quiet so you get a chance to enjoy the stereo. Overall I love this car!!!

  • Great car... - 2002 Honda Civic

Awesome car for the money. I have been plagued with interior rattles and creaks since I purchased the car. After about 5 times to the dealership, they finally fixed it and called it "pretty widespread". Disappointing, but I still love it.

  • Great Mileage, Fun Drive! - 2009 Honda Civic

Commuting 65 miles/day means gas mileage is paramount ... and this car averages 38 MPG! The engine is quiet yet responsive. The seats are comfortable and supportive. The car handles well in traffic.

The First want I test Drove was the Automatic and although I was impressed with Quality Build and general quality the ride was just I expected, very good, BUT... Everything changed when I drove the MANUAL...WOW!! I was in a deep driving satisfaction what s difference between the Auto and Manual. The Manual makes you want to keep going and not let go, is almost as if you wish you had your work and home as far as way as possible in order to maintain the pleasure as long as you can.Hands down Manual is for true driving expnce. When Idle you feel as if the motor has not started yet, impressive. Great/ Smooth Pickup Speed Interior Craftmanshp top notch. Thanks Honda you raised the BAR once again

  • Gotta Love Them Civics - 1998 Honda Civic

I love my 1998 Honda Civic, so far it has been a really good car. It is a big difference from my last car which was a 1995 Ford Contour with about 10 recalls on it. The only little problem with my car which has the automatic transmission, it shifts really hard, but maybe thats like Honda. Other than that I love it, it has great build quality and a lot of safety features. I love the valet key idea and autolock which was not on any Ford, the crash tests are much better, sunroof is great, and the keyless entry is another plus (why doesnt it have a trunk opener button). Oh well, Im very satisfied with this car and would recommend it to anyone.

Have had no trouble with anything except driver side power window comes out of track when lowerted when raining. Other than that, this car has had no problems since the day we bought it.

  • HX Transmission Problems - 1997 Honda Civic
    By -

CVT Transmission develops problems at idle ($4500 to replace)- RPMs race up and down- started at 40,000 miles- Honda knows about this "problem". Found out it is common problem- we are trying to get Honda to replace at no charge- because it is $4500 for new transmission (cannot rebuild or repair CVT) and car is worth $7000
