Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Great Car - 1995 Honda Civic
    By -

I got this car as a first car and love it. Its a great car and very fun to drive even on long road trips. It has never let me down and runs as though its brand new. The gas mileage is great and I love how I can drive an almost 15 year old car and not have to worry about gas. I do wish it had a better alarm though, Im afraid to make any big changes and get it stolen, Id be crushed if it was. Would definitely recommend this car, especially the EX.

  • Fix the problems with the engine light - 2004 Honda Civic
    By -

Since the car reached about 80,000 miles the service engine light comes on at least once a month... It has had a new computer chip, catalytic converter, and transmission clutch box. Now they tell me it needs another catalytic converter $1100. The mechanic told me that Honda has not been able to find a fix for this issue but now it is no longer in warranty. I have had all recommended maintenance which costs between $200-400 each time. I would think that the car would not be falling apart. I have a friend who had to replace the transmission just after 100000.

  • Very Economic and fun to drive ! - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

I simply cant get enough of this car. And its been already a year and a half. With 30.000 I have not had one single problem. The feel of the car is very comfortable, steering wheel is very easy to turn doing so with just one finger. I average about 50 miles a day and I can honestly say that it is very economic. I like the fact that the car locks itself and alarms after maybe 30 seconds. Note that this only happens if the car if off. If is on, dont worry about leaving it on and going out for a smoke while it warms up. Great car to have if you are looking for a fast, fuel efficiency, not to expensive car !!

  • Wind whistles - 2016 Honda Civic
    By -

Im really irritated by the poor window/door seal on the drivers side. At 50+ mph you can hear the wind whistling, like the window is cracked a tiny bit. The dealer and Honda America say its just a characteristic of the vehicle, but my 2015 Civic doesnt do this, nor my 2007 Civic, nor my 2005 Civic, nor the 2002 Civic we had previously. Test drive at 50+ with the radio off and listen before you buy this car. I wish I had. There is no fix at this time. By the way, Im guessing at MPG below. I havent actually checked that.

  • It worked for me, and I love it! - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought my 2001 Civic in June, 01, and it has been perfect since the get go. I was smart and bought the 5-speed, because an automatic with a 115 HP engine is not as quick. This thing moves. It wont win any races, but it is plenty to get me going on the freeway. Its pretty roomy, unless you are over six feet tall. Oh, and the Accord does not offer any more leg room for any seat. I am six feet tall, and I love this car. Plus, it looks great, especially with my Thule racks on top. It looks like a Passat or other European sedan with the high rear end, but I only paid 13,900 for it. I recommend it, and I havent had any problems. A great car.

  • 6 month update 08 civic lx 2dr coupe - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

I purchased this car mainly for the good gas mileage and reliability but it has turned into so much more. This car handles like a go-cart, and is very fun to drive. It really is a sports car with great reliability and fuel consumption. The ac blows very cold and the stereo is great. I owned a BMW 3 series car about 5 years ago and this Civics handling is so much better at half the cost of the BMW...

  • Its OK but some issues - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

The car has been very reliable. I have had to replace the drivers side window motor twice now, I hear others have this issue as well. Like some of the other reviewers, min is at 99,000 miles and my transmission is starting to act funny. I hope I dont have to replace like they did!

  • 14k paid, but worth much more - 2005 Honda Civic
    By -

I purchased my 2nd Honda a month ago, and I am completley satisfied. Excellent build quality, refinement, A/C, CD player all for 14.5k. Steady 33 MPG in heavy city driving. ANYBODY who is on a budget (like me!) and can spend 14k or so on a new car, this is the only choice. With gas going to $2.00 a gallon, Honda has continued to refine an inexpensive yet stylish(for the price) car. Many of my co-workers want to know what kind of milage I get; I tell them 33-35mpg, they cant beleive it. Many of them spend more on gas a month than I do on my monthly payment.

  • Solid - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

This is my familys 5th Honda (4 Civics) and we are not disappointed. We knew what we were getting. Of course we could have saved $3K-$4K buying a Sunfire\Cavailier or Hyundai but the resale, reliability and quality is not even close to the Civic. Not a problem from day one. For road trips, this may not be the ideal car but itll be good on gas. On the performance side the 1.7 4 banger is lacking a bit in power and performance compared to competition (Mazda3, etc.). Just imagine the Civic with the Accord or CRV 4 cyclinder engine.....are you listening Honda?
