This Year's Model Updates:

In typical Honda fashion, the Civic receives a number of minor changes this year in order to keep it fresh. For the coupe and sedan, there's new exterior styling, including restyling for the front and rear bumpers, hood, headlights and grille. Inside, the audio speakers have been upgraded, extra sound deadening material has been added and floor mats are now standard in the LX and EX. The LX trim has slightly bigger wheels this year (15 inches) and standard keyless entry. A new value package contains air conditioning, a CD player and a new center console. For the Si hatchback, there are new headlight and taillight designs, larger 16-inch wheels and flashier interior trim. Like the regular sedan, the Civic Hybrid has updated styling, standard floor mats and improved speakers. It also has a new interior console with an armrest, adjustable rear headrests and a manual driver-seat height adjuster. Finally, all 2004 Honda Civic sedans and coupes have a new seatbelt reminder system.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability and quality, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Top-of-the-line models are pricey, antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

The 2004 Honda Civic is suppose to be a really great buy but I have had so many problems with mine. The front strut went out on my car, the rear defroster and my cv boots are now popping. This is all within a four month period and Honda sites everything as my fault eventhough it sits all the time. I am afraid that is will just fall apart on me. The car does have decent pickup but it doesnt have a traction control system which it really needs. I think they should put an ESP program on it similar to VWs and Toyotas have. My 14 year saab is more realible than this new civic.

Overall, an outstanding vehicle. Love how the engine seems to come to a complete shut down at stops when the electric motor takes over. So far, the mileage has not lived up to the advertising, but certainly much better than most other cars. The trunk is a bit too small, otherwise, an excelle

We have had our Honda Civic Hybrid since August 2002 and have not had a moments regret about buying it. We admit to feeling a bit superior these days as we pass many high-priced gas stations without needing to stop!

I have owned 4 Hondas now including this one and I am the happiest with this purchase. Its a great car I drive 116 miles to work a day and I can go all week with 1 tank of gas. And it is the cutest, roomiest car around.

im an 18-year-old college student and this civic is my first band new car. its so quiet in neutral that i didnt even realize it was running the first time i got in. im 63" and have no problem getting in or out of my car. i also fit quite comfortably in the back seats and headroom is not even an issue. very sleek, easy-to-work interior. never have to struggle up any grade hill with this manual transmission- gear engagement is smooth, and the clutch is very soft. engine boom starts becoming evident once you get past 4k rpms, but isnt a problem on the freeway since rpms stay at juuust under 4k going 85mph.(6th gear would help.)i get 33 mpg, LOVE the car!

  • my favorite car - 2004 Honda Civic

In 31 years of owning and driving cars, including trucks, a 4wd wagon, and a sporty hatchback, this is most definitely my favorite. I am averaging 45.4 mpg overall in mostly short city driving. The electric motor gives a peppy assist on acceleration, and the frugal 1.3L engine barely sips the gasoline. It is a civic so it is a fun car to scoot around town in, and it is a honda so it is reliable. As sort of a nerd I enjoy the new technology and the instant MPG readouts. And it is satisfying to try to do something to ease our countrys dependence on foreign oil. It is a fabulous car and I look forward to the days ahead when all car models are offered with hybrid technology.

My mpg avg for 4000+ miles (B trip odo) is 52! Driving locally @ 60-65mph and normal in-town driving is 53-55 mpg! Only unusual maintenance was recall for fuel computer reboot. I Like my Civic Hybrid 5sp! Total mileage since new is 116xxx and brakes are still about 50+%. I wish Honda still offered the manual tranny, Id buy a new one with navi option. The only downside is the lack of power, but I didnt buy it for power. You have to plan ahead to pass. Going up long grades can be slow.
