Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.
The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

Si Sedan - Fun, but... - 2007 Honda Civic
By SiCop - April 1 - 6:20 pmLove the overall value of this car - the performance and "fun" you get for the money has no compare on the market. However, I think Honda skimped a bit on interior material choices. Ive sought and destroyed a few annoying rattles - still have some rattles I havent been able to fix yet. You really have to get used to some quirks in the drivetrain caused by the Drive By Wire (DBW) tuning - delay in responsiveness when you push on the gas and the car holds onto the revs (rev-hang issue). This tuning is all done to meet the CAFE standards and earn the Low Emissions Vehicle tag - ALL GOOD, but detract from the overall potential of this very fun vehicle.

Love my Honda - 2004 Honda Civic
By jenleechang - April 1 - 1:07 pmIve had my Civic for 4 full years now and Ive NEVER had any problems with it. The only time Ive ever had to take it to the shop is to get an oil change. Its the most comfortable car youll ride in - everything is designed conveniently and easy to use. I think the Civic has better mpg than a lot of hybrids. My payments were less than $200/month, and I just finished paying it off 2 months ago. Its the best car Ive ever had and I plan on driving it for at least another 4-5 years.

My son a car nut, told me to go down to the honda dealer, and after the testdrive I was sold! I like the interior alot, looks nice and has a quality look and feel. Love my color sunlight silver. I agree the lights are very bright!!

Reliability Champ - 2001 Honda Civic
By edmcohen - March 31 - 10:00 amAfter 103,000 miles of trouble-free, inconvenience-free driving, this car seems as good as it was when new. I had some of the same trivial build-quality shortcomings that others have described in these early new-generation Civics. I did have to replace one of the rear suspension links with an after-market adjustable link, to get a correct suspension alignment. (I would rather do that, than not have independent rear suspension.) While I covet the detail improvements of the subsequent Civics, I do not see enough reason to replace this car any time soon.

Fun car - does NOT like the cold! - 2008 Honda Civic
By Kevin - March 29 - 4:40 pmI have to say I really do enjoy driving this car. Regardless of how slow it is, the feeling is very solid and really lets you feel the road. Brakes are a little weak (Civics have always had pretty weak brakes). Very small trunk space, but manageable. If you live in a very cold area (i.e. single digits and below), expect to see extremely low MPG numbers. I live in Chicago, and around town it averages about 30 MPG when its 30-40 degrees, and when the weather drops to single digits and below, the mpg plummets to mid 20s. Highway isnt much better - when the engine is fully warmed up, cruise control on the highway at 65, I get about 35 MPG (again only in cold weather). Very disappointing.

Love it! - 2009 Honda Civic
By Lindsey - March 29 - 12:26 pmThis is my third Civic and I absolutely love it! Hondas are simply reliable and low maintenance. Everyone comments on both the exterior and interior! I find it to drive very smoothly and havent found it to be loud. Ive been in my friends Cobalt, talk about loud and obnoxious! I have had the car for a little over six months now and Ive had no problems. I commute a pretty far distance and have also taken a long road trip. The gas mileage is great as well. I do mostly highway driving and average about 35 mpg. Its so fun to drive!

Long live the si - 2003 Honda Civic
By si lover - March 29 - 10:47 amThis car has been great! Ive driven it for a few years now and Im ready to buy a new one. The handling is great on cornering with the right tires. Acceleration isnt amazing, but hey its a 4 banger. The only complaint is the cost to repair. Nobody has parts and most people dont even know what kind of car it is. If youre a young kid and you want something with low maintenance and fun to drive this is it. Or if you live in a city its so easy to park. Great little car! Owning this car has made my wife and I Honda enthusiasts.
