I dont have too many positive things to say about this car. I bought the car to get a reliable, high mileage, AT car. The car has always gotten low mileage (25/31) in mixed driving. Never higher than 32mpg in 100% Interstate travel. The trunklid is a guillotine despite the installation of a special spoiler-supporting trunklid torsion element. The exterior paint is eggshell fragile. Alternator was warranty replaced at 10K miles. The 92 Saturn SL I owned for 10yrs. was a better car than this one. We bought the Honda for its glowing reputation, and based on my experience, I have to wonder how it was ever acquired...

I miss my Volvo and my VW GLX- VR6every day I have to drive this Car. Although very reliable, and I appreciate the improved gas mileage from my previous cars....Its boring, too light (I get blown into the next lane on windy days), the a/c cant keep up w/ the humidity in Chicago, overall quality is too cheap, the handling is poor (I hate the jerk of the transmission from taking off from a stop and the horrible control when you go over 70 mph--good tires do help some). Liven it up guys....theres nothing fun about drivng this car, Im thrilled I have a luxury car to drive every other day when Im not commuting an abusurd distance to work every day.

I have owned my 98 civic hx since I purchased in in 98 and just love it. I was surprised by the peppy motor when I test drove it and am still surprised by the power it has. I enjoy getting 38 MPG in the city and even more on the freeway. I have had no reliability issues, nothing outside of routine maintenance. What do you expect from Honda. I recommend buying a civic if you are in the market.

I got my first car a honda civic cx in 1998, and i love it.. no hastle no problems, my service advisor is great, all the maintenance is done at ball honda, and for a small car, its decent. my next car will be honda again...

  • Best first car .. when youre young - 1998 Honda Civic

I owned it for 5 years. Still feel excited every time I get behind the wheel. It lets you feel all the bumps on the road.. so will sell it once I have a family. For single guy, it is a great toy (fund to drive) and tool (practical car). The only other car that has more fun, among those Ive driven, is the TT. But its twice as expensive.

  • MY CUTE CAR - 1998 Honda Civic

I love my honda civic, its cute and fun to drive. VERY RELIABLE!!! I have never had to put any money into fixing anything, only the 70,000 mile tune up- $300. The interior of the car is great, nothing rattles and nothing is loose. Gets great gas mileage. Not much speed, or much room in the back seat, but thats ok.. My ONLY complaint is the exterior of the car dents VERY easily. You could take your finger and slightly push on it and it dents. When I first got my car there were no dents just a few, barley visible paint chips on one side. Now I have numerous dents, small but still frustrating to have. Overall a great car

I bought this car new in 98. I have NEVER had a single problem with it. Ive kept up with the regular maintenance and it runs great! I have never had a worry about it failing on me. Ive driven it accross country many times. I am sold on Hondas forever!

I bought my 98 ex 5 speed manual in 2006 with 69k miles on it for $5000. When this car finally reached the end of its useful value in 2013 it had 397,000 miles on it and still started and ran no problem rain, snow, or sun. With snow tires on it I could get through anything, and I even took it in the muddy fields and off road, and drove it like a race car, engine next to redline, on pavement and dirt a few times. As long as you do regular maintenance, especially change the timing belt, spark plugs, and distributor cap; and adjust the valves when recommended this engine will outlive you. Two major problems-the door lock assembly on the drivers side broke, and there was no way to open the door, so I had to cut it open with a torch to replace it; and the ignition coil inside the distributor burned out and left me stranded once. Other than that, just routine stuff you expect with a car that old-radiator replacement, timing sprockets and oil/water pump replacements....but the alternator, a/c system, power steering, struts, 3/4 ball joints, and rear brakes were original and working properly within specification when I retired it. Overall a fantastic car that wont give up on you, and trust me, mine got driven and abused.
