Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

What you should know. First the car is a blast to drive. I have driven RSXs, Mazda 3s, and Corollas. The SI is my favorite to drive. It handles well and the rally shifter helps make you feel like you are in control on your car. The SI transmission is touchy so you have to master it but when you do driving it becomes even better. Acceleration is moderate, although when you hit about 40mph then the car goes. Its roomy for a small car, people sit back there and always tell me how comfy and how much leg space is back there. Plus the seats in the back come down for when you want to transport a lot of your junk. And trust me I have done that a lot. All in all a great car almost about to hit 60000.

I went to the dealership to talk them out of their last S2000, however, they were still very proud of it, although it was a brand new 2008 model, and I was trying to purchase it in June 2009. I test drove many vehicles. I had previously owned an RX8 and had already wanted a NA high rev. engine. After I test drove the SI I was sold. Fun to drive, affordable, cheap insurance, great build quality. The car has a great platform to add aftermarket parts at a reasonable price. Maintenance is so much more reasonable than the RX8. Granted, the RX8 is unique and handles like a dream. The Honda is just a great value for the price!

Good gas mileage. With K&N Oil Filter and Castrol Syntec getting 35mpg at 70mph on 87 regular gas. At 55-65mph nearly 40 or higher mpg. Like the cluster gauge comparing to the the 2002 Honda Civic Ex or older.

  • All right at first - 2003 Honda Civic

This car was all right at first, just a little vibration due to a loose motor mount. The transmission went out 5 months later and its broken beyond repair is what I was told. Itll total 3 grand for a new one and I need to shell out cash for worn left and right bushings, a leaky cv boot, and a new motor mount. Dont bother buying unless you can get it from dealer under warranty.

This is my first car purchase, and I couldnt be happier with it. The Honda Civic has been great to drive. It gets excellent gas mileage, especially for people who drive highways a lot like I do. It consistently gets 40mpg, and on longer trips, its been known to get 45mpg. I live in an area with a lot of deer, and the brakes respond very well when it is necessary to make a quick stop to avoid hitting a deer or any other critter that runs out in front of you. This is a great car for the money you pay.

I have driven this car since Nov. 2002, durring what I consider a tough winter. This car handeled very well in the snow, and is a pleasure to drive anytime. the only thing I would like to see added to its options is a GPS, other than that it has everything I need in a automobile. Fun to drive and excellent on gas.

  • Great Effort by Honda - 2003 Honda Civic

I am happy with my purchase of this vehicle. It feels like it has more than 93 horsepower. I am truly getting close to the 50 mpg this car is supposed to get you. The gauges are fun to look at for many reasons, and the car is actually peppy when pushed a little. Even when I push it hard and with the AC on, I get about 40 mpg.

  • Civic- reliable, good mpg, bland styling - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

I have had my Civic for nearly a year and this car runs like it is still brand new. The manual is much more fun to drive than the automatic, and of course, could use a bit more pick up. But how can I complain when I average 34-36 MPGs in the Washington, D.C. area? I opted for the silver coupe with side air bags, security system (insurance discounts on both), fog lights, spoiler, 6-spoke wheels, and sunroof visor(not neccessary). This car was great in the snow with the OEM tires. Did not get stuck once. Overall when you buy a Honda you know what youre getting a reliable, practical car at a decent price.
