This Year's Model Updates:

Marking the changes for the 2009 Honda Civic are a slight nose and tail job, new wheel designs, a pair of new trim levels (LX-S and DX Value Package) and a number of high-tech enhancements (including Bluetooth availability and a USB audio input).

Pros:
  • Wide-ranging engine lineup offers both fuel efficiency and performance, roomy and refined interior, strong crash test scores, available as a sedan or coupe.
Cons:
  • Controversial gauge cluster design, Bluetooth and stability control only available on upper trims, slow acceleration times of Hybrid and GX models.

  • Impressive Compact - 2009 Honda Civic

Ive only had my Civic LX sedan (automatic) one day but this is one impressive car. I love the way this car looks, handles, and rides. This generation of Civics reminds me of the Accords from years ago, and this is one thing that attracted me to the new Civic. I test drove an Accord LX this week and it was a great large car, but the Civics handling blew away the Accords. Overall, this car looks and drives like it should be far more expensive.

This is my 6th Honda, my first Hybrid, so far the fuel mileage exceeds the sticker. Been getting 46 plus, city & highway. Typical Honda, very solid and fun to drive. I did notice for some reason the brakes are not as good as my last couple Hondas.

Bought this a week ago and love it! So much fun to drive. Heated leather seats are great in the cold the weather, love the one-touch sunroof. At first I wasnt sure about the split dash when I was shopping around, but after driving it its so easy to get used and actually a lot better for checking your speed. Great on gas too.

  • Great Commuter Car - 2009 Honda Civic

The Dealer said they had customers getting 45-49mpg. I have had the car for 2 months and have 9k miles already. Solid avg, mpg of 47! Drive posted speed of 75mph+ do not hyper- mile. 95 mile commute 1 way, mountains, hwy, etc. First service is $85.00 which I thought was kind of high. But looks like every 9k service so not to bad. I have friends who have Prius and dont get same mpg as I do. Tire noise is excessive, can overcome with MP3s. Navi is 1st class! Car Drives good in rain and at highway speeds, hopefully all will continue in the winter! Very pleasantly surprised of mpg claims from dealer were not exaggerated. Great lease rates, could not touch Prius even 09.

I traded in my 2007 civic EX for the 2009 version. Thats how much I like these cars. Its always been my practice to buy the car that depreciates the least (even if you have to pay list), end trade every other year. I spend practically nothing on maintenance, and my cost is only minimal depreciation.

  • 2009 Honda Civic Si Coupe - 2009 Honda Civic

The 2009 Honda Civic Si Coupe is a real bargain for an under $25,000 car. I never tire from driving it. The seats are pleasing to look at; however, I sometimes have a difficult time finding a comfortable seating position. Below 5,800 rpms there is not much power. I usually reach i-VTEC in first and second gear, but that is usually it unless I want to obtain a speeding ticket. On the streets I have only been able to redline the car in first gear because it already brings me to 55 mph. Honda should increase the power, so it can be accessible earlier. The transmission is smooth, and I am able to shift the gears effortlessly although fifth and sixth gears are mostly useless.

  • Great Mileage, Fun Drive! - 2009 Honda Civic

Commuting 65 miles/day means gas mileage is paramount ... and this car averages 38 MPG! The engine is quiet yet responsive. The seats are comfortable and supportive. The car handles well in traffic.

  • Gobs of Fun To Drive - 2009 Honda Civic

Have the car for 7 months, for the price no other car company can match it for performance, styling, fun meter level. The Civic-EX isnt even close in matching the Sis performance... no auto tranny may be the reason for not getting Si for many buyers. About 6.6 seconds to 60 mph with a 4 cyl. engine (no turbo), and only 197 hp, 139 ft.lbs of torque! Im getting about 25 mpg overall with about 60% city driving. You have to rev this car above 6k rpm to find its "sweet" spot. If you want less 4.0 sec to 60 mph, then buy a Vette for $80+K! One car magazine rates it #17 for the most fun to drive for ALL cars on the road (including BMW, Audi, etc.) that are priced 2x+ the Sis sticker.

  • Hard to Beat - 2009 Honda Civic

I have over 4K miles on my LX and am averaging 35.4 mpg after running 10 tanks of gas through it. Ran it through its first snow the other day and it handled remarkably well. My only regret is not having opted for the LX-S version, cause Id like to have the alloy wheels.

  • A Rattle Box!! - 2009 Honda Civic

Ive had no problems with the engine, but everything inside this car rattles...the dash, the door panel....and it drives you insane!! Poor, poor fit and finish. Sounds like loose change is inside the door. Took to dealer and of course they drove it on a smooth road and "couldnt reproduce". Also when steering wheel is in upper position, cant see the odometer. Automatic locking everything also drives you insane when getting groceries etc. out of the trunk and back seat...the doors keep locking (found a way to disable the rear door auto-lock, but the trunk eludes me. When you close trunk, doors automatically lock...then you have to unlock them again!
