This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
Cons:
  • Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

  • The right car for the long run - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I decided to do something about the high price of gas, I bought a 2006 civic based on reviews, gas mileage estimates, safety and just good old honda quality. So far it has been an excellent decision. Nice style and very fun to drive. I drive over 90 miles per day to work and back so the civic just made good economic sense. Though the civic is pricey, I feel it is money well spent for quality. Give me a honda any day.

There is some kind of weird vibration at low rpm. Only in drive mode. you can hear it when come to a stop light. Also when you rev between 0 and 1. the dealer said its normal. What the hell is it.

  • Best Owned Car - 2006 Honda Civic

Ive owned a Toyota, two VWs, and now two Civics, and this is by far the best car Ive owned. From its superb gas mileage, to its non-dated styling, this car takes the cake any day. Requires 87 octane and is certainly not a sports car, but the gas mileage is absolutely fabulous. Somehow, I cant stray from 34-36 mpg regardless of how i drive.

  • Good but overated - 2006 Honda Civic

This car is very good looking but the interior quality is rather questionable. Lots of cheap interior plastic makes the interior fragile. The gas mileage is pretty good and the power is adequate. I have a K&N cold air intake system and it helps.I actually had many complements about its looks. Its comfortable on long trips and is fun to drive. If you live in an area with many many potholes, I dont recommend you get this car because it will not take them without a flat tire or other damages. The rear visibility is an issue that you have to deal with if you intend to buy the coupe. I wish I waited a bit longer for a Mazda 3.

  • So so - 2006 Honda Civic

I find my Honda to be uncomfortable to drive, it doesnt have a lumbar support adjustment. The head rest lean too far forward, I actually took the drivers off. Great fuel mileage.

  • eleven months of civics - 2006 Honda Civic

The 2006 civic hybrid has exceeded all my expectations. I average between 46 and 51 mpg. I took the car on a 2500 mile trip to the west coast from Denver and was surprised that it was more comfortable than I thought. I started the trip around 69 mph and soon was cruising at 75 plus mph on the interstates. My worst mileage was from san diego to green river Utah ( all uphill) mileage was about 37 mpg for that segment. The gas engine does really rev up climbing grades in cruise control, but it goes along fine. Probably if you had 4 people on board, you would some more horsepower (I was alone) For what it is , I give it a high rating and like its look much more than the prius.

  • Pros and Cons. - 2006 Honda Civic

pro: It really is fun to drive with the added horsepower, reliability and best of all the gas mileage saves me a lot. Con: There are noises/squeaks/rattles here and there that sometimes dealers having a hard time to duplicate. but i dont think that affects the performance of the car. Im not sure if they already addressed these problems on 2007 model.

  • Improvement over 05 - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

My wife and I purchased an 05 Civic Hybrid. The 06 is a whole different car. Everything that could have been improved on the 05 was addressed. The only thing remaining is more power but that may be the price of the great mileage. Were getting 44 mpg now in the very cold weather.

  • A Very Nice Car Overall, but... - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I liked this car enough to switch from twenty-plus years of VW Jettas. Its beautifully made. It handles nicely and the ride isnt bad, and its as quiet as Id want, even with the moonroof open. The audio sounds great, though radio reception isnt very good. The thick windshield corner posts (struts?) obstruct vision, quite seriously on left turns. The transmission has trouble deciding what gear it wants to be in on grades at speed. I wonder where all the reviewers reporting 35-40 mpg live and drive - I have to do a lot of maneuvering in and around traffic on long, stiff interstate grades, and even with a lot of more relaxed driving averaged in, Im getting 29-31 mpg city/hwy.

  • too many recalls - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Perhaps its true what is said about buying the first year of a newly designed model- that is- it will have problems until they refine them. Ive had three recalls as well as an electrical problem, a HVAC problem, a body panel alignment problem. I feel this is too many problems for a new care especially one of Hondas reputation.
