On HX, LX and EX Civics, you'll find improved gauge illumination. There's a new center console for LX and EX, and a CD player is standard for HX and LX. On the outside, the 2003 Honda Civic has freshened taillamps and new wheel designs. Also, there is a Hybrid Civic available for the 2003 model year.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

  • How dealerships screw you out of $250 - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I did my research and printed out the Edmunds price. The dealership surprisingly had no problems with selling it to me for that. However, In the finance office, they stubbornly tried to sell me extended warranties and then announced that they already installed an anti-left plan to the car in which they charged me $249. It probably cost them $49 to buy it from the company and 5 minutes to put those silly stickers on the 7 most stripped parts of the car. I was not in the mood to have them spend an hour to remove the stickers and in turn stratch or chip the paint, so Im paying $4.50 more a month for something that I didnt need or want.

  • Honda Civic - From a Toyota Lover - 2003 Honda Civic

Bought the Brand new Civic on March 26th. Great in gas. Overall handling is good. The car needed wheel alignment in the first week itself. Ride is bumpy.

  • civic ex - 2003 Honda Civic

Good looking coupe, very sporty. The ex is well equipped at a good price. The engine could use a bit more balls. The dealer open road sucks, my trunk lock did not work correctly and it got dammaged by me fron slamming it shut. They said the car was broken into which did not happen and i paid $500 to get it fixed. I will buy another Honda but not from them.

  • Well screwed together - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

Bought this car because I started a new job and had to commute. My previous car was a 2002 Altima 3.5 which I really enjoyed driving especially from the acceleration point of view. Had many fit/finish and quality problems with the Altima, but not the Honda. Its completely reliable and everything fits together as it should. Gas mileage is excellent. Its a lot of fun to drive, but could definately do with another 20 horses under the hood to make passing more relaxing. Amazed at how high the engine revs and how quiet it is at such high revs. Definately a car thats more in touch with the road and as a result can be tiring to drive over long hauls.

  • Making The Case for the Canadian Civic - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I have taken my 2002 Civic EX on six SFO/PDX trips (750 mi each way). Harsh potholes, sand, scratched the bottom hard, and routine 90-110 mph commute at 5am. Despite warnings about the Canadian-built Civics of 2001 & 2002, I remain impressed with how much abuse my Civic has taken. I drive it like a maniac with NO PROBLEMS whatsoever. Rattles are starting to surface after one year of abuse. Rides quiet like the old Accord. US-built tranny in my 2002 might be a problem in the future but so far so good. 2003 transmission is Japanese- built, car now made in Ohio, a good thing. overall, I suggest skipping Civic- get the Accord.

  • Good decision - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I have had no problems whatsoever and have been rear ended once (by another Civic no less). The bumper had a scrape which has since been fixed. I only mention this because I have seen bumpers fall off of other cars from less. The fuel mileage is excellent. I average approx. 25 mpg. I have always been a die hard buy American guy. I became sick of working on my cars constantly and decided that my first new car would have to be foreign. When American companies learn to make reliable cars I may actually go back to them.

  • Civilized car needing a few improvements - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I never thought I would buy a Civic, but I did, and its not quite a bad car. The performance is adequate for its size, and the handling is pretty taut. The interior has a nice look to it, but there are a few substantial rattles that are annoying. Overall quality is decent, but the "tight" feel of everything could be improved. The car really "loosens up" shortly after being purchased. Even with all of this, the fuel economy is what keeps me really happy about my purchase. Good car for the money.

  • CIVIC EX Coupe slow but fun - 2003 Honda Civic

Not as swift as it looks. However, offers great quality, fuel economy, crisp handling at a fantastic price.

  • Hybrid Hype - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

The draw to this vehicle is the environmentally friendly engine. Looks great on paper but it has not held up to its hype. Several trips back to the dealership have met with frustration and a lack of knowledge and understanding of the Hybrid by the Honda technicians and salespersons. The Hybrid engine does not shut down if the outside temperature is below 43 degrees so unless you live in the south, dont expect any outstanding gas mileage. Even when its warm out, Im still only seeing 40 mpg. Honda says the engine is working perfectly--if thats so, estimated mpg is not realistic.

  • I still miss my Accura - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

This car has taken me 66,000 miles without the slightest problem. I drove my last Accura RSX to 180,000 miles on the original clutch. You cannot say too much about the reliability of Honda products. In good old flat Florida the 1500 cc engine is just fine. I found the engine to be very busy in the mountains when I drove out to LA. The handling of the Civic is OK but once you get used to an Accura you are ruined for anything else. My next car will be another RSX.
