Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

Had my civic for 14 years and 270,000 miles later it still going strong. Very reliable and easy to work on. Worth every penny.

Overall satisfied with the purchase of my 2008 Civic LX. Got four quotes from the dealers using edmunds.com. The price range varied about $1000 from the lowest to highest. Obviously I went with the lowest quote and closest dealer to my home. Happy with the overall quality, style and price.

  • Good but not for everyone - 2007 Honda Civic

I like it. The car is fun and during the night it looks like more expensive car. I do regret getting it with the Navigation system, DONT GET A CIVIC OR ANY OTHER HONDA WITH THE NAVI! It was waste of money. You pay almost $2,000dlls for something that cant play DVDS and no bluetooth. It works perfect, no complaints there but with less money you could buy something with more features. Since its a coupe and it has a moonroof (headroom decreases) its only suited for young folks with no family and who dont carry a lot of stuff. If you do get this car, buy it some projector headlamps and L.E.D tail lamps, waoo! It looks great! Im getting around 25mpg, but I drive hard. Best mpg its on the highway.

  • So Far So Good - 2009 Honda Civic

So far I am pretty happy with my purchase of a Civic. Overall, its what I expected. There are a few surprising issues. Most notably, the car has a tough time starting when its cold out (under 20 degrees). I live in the Northeast and that has been rather often this winter. The windshield washer nozzles have also been freezing up since Ive had the car. It doesnt handle well in the snow but I expected that since its so light. I do like the reliability that comes with the Civic and it does ride well. Also, the gas gauge seems to underestimate the amount of gas in the tank. I actually was driving with no bars on the gas gauge, so I rushed to fill the tank and I still had about 2 gallons left.

In Jan 2008 I read a news article indicating gas prices would increase to $4.00 in the summer. My wife and I (empty nesters) already had 2 vehicles. Her Mercedes s500 (expensive maintenance) but it saved my marriage:) and my GMC full size Pick Up. We used the GMC to commute downtown to work (we car pool thank goodness). Were not short on cash but I refused to continue to spend $80 to 90$ a week for fuel. I did the math and found that a $3500 dollar car would pay for itself in a couple of years. Wow! I found my baby for $3200.00. 22,000 miles later I sometimes dont drive the truck for weeks. This was my first Honda. I will put the 1993 EX up against any other 4 cylinder. New or old.

  • Clean Machine - 2003 Honda Civic

This Hybrid is a great city car and performs well on the highway. It is small enough to park in the tightest street spots, but big enough for my 63", 250lb boyfriend, or 5 silly girls on a Saturday night. Trunk is big enough for a set of golf clubs +. It handles very well. Terrific turning radius. Very comfortable. Plenty of umph to get on the expressway or cruise to Ohio. I am getting 39-41 mpg. Love the safety features and that the cd player and cruise control are standard, although the speakers need an upgrade. Did expect a little better gas mileage, and would have loved a sun roof. All in all, I love my clean machine.

  • C&D is right, this car is a loser - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

I would be surprised if there is anyone who can find a car with worse ride quality. The solution is simple and yet infeasible: put 200lb+ load in the trunk and you will forget the bumpy ride. Paint quality is aweful. Driver reading light went dead at mile 4 and the fabric insert on the door broke loose at mile 20k. Excellent gas mileage. I am delightly confuged why the resale value is still so high. That makes this loser keep the "best value" title. But Elantra and Corolla are ready to take over the crown at any moment.

  • Enjoy the driveability - 2006 Honda Civic

Love the new Civic so far. Only one problem, the SRS restraint warning light stays on about 1 out of every 5 trips. Took it to dealer and diagnostic codes were not downloaded on tester yet, so I am not sure why this happens intermitently. Probably just a false warning light. We will see.

  • Where is the reliability? - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Bought 2006 Civic LX because of its incredible reliability history but having a real hard time keeping this newly designed car healthy. Got tired of taking my new car to dealership almost every other week. I have already gone to the dealer to fix the passenger door, passenger seat sliding assembly, recalled accelerator padel, falling steering column cover, unfoldable backseat and today - both rear shock absorbers are leaking alarming amount of fluid - need to replace both. Got so freaked out, purchased the extended warranty as I have to buy it before 6000 miles. God knows whats next! Am I the only unlucky one? This is extremely poor quality control by Honda for a redesigned car.
