This Year's Model Updates:

A host of minor changes bring the Civic into 2003. On the inside, all models gain improved seat fabrics, rear adjustable outboard headrests and new four-spoke steering wheels. On HX, LX and EX Civics, you'll find improved gauge illumination. There's a new center console for LX and EX, and a CD player is standard for HX and LX. On the outside, the 2003 Honda Civic has freshened taillamps and new wheel designs. Also, there is a Hybrid Civic available for the 2003 model year.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

  • I just like hachbacks - 2003 Honda Civic

I started out convinced that id never like a japanese car. I was in the market for a sub-compact hachback, so i gave it a test drive. My whole outlook on japanese cars changed that day. The Civic SiR (Civic Si in america) hase a very nice short throw "raly style" shifter and exelent throtle response. It corners as if on rails and sports some of the best front seats in any car. The sterio is quite impresive for a facory unit, the rear seat is surprisingly roomy. All in all: this is one sweet ride.

  • Im wondering.... - 2003 Honda Civic

I like this car, but at 9000 miles, the front struts had to be replaced. At 18000 miles, the alignment is out and the front tire have to be replaced. Im wondering if one has to do with the other.

After six months I can say I made no mistake buying this car. Lots of fun, not too childish, reliable, and a looker.

  • In shop 5 times in 6 weeks - 2003 Honda Civic

The review title says it all. Ive owned the car 6 weeks and it has been in the shop 5 times. The build quality is *not* what I associate with the Honda name. This car has quite a few rattles. Also some of the carpet on the side of the trunk has already come off where a screw was missed. These are minor inconconveniences, but once again not the quality I expect from Honda.

I love this car for its fuel economy, but my husband finds it impossible to drive as his commute car because he doesnt have enough leg room. Since he drives 45 miles each way, this is very important to him. Hes 511" and 270 lbs. Its very comfortable for me at 54" and 160 lbs. The car has 13k miles on it and we have some rattling starting in the console and theres a very annoying whining from the engine since about 8k miles.

I have about 2000 miles currently with lifetime MPG of approximately 42 Great car, luxury line for Honda Civic, just take a look at the EX and compare. Cost is an issue, but remember that there is currently a $2000 Federal tax rebate and the improved savings on fuel. Also, the state of Maryland does not charge sales tax on low emmisions/alternate fuel vehicles, so I saved about $1000 there as well. I recommend this vehicle to anyone, young or old, as an intelligent and responsible choice - just keep in mind its not a sports car.

  • economy car - 2003 Honda Civic

We wanted an affordable car that would last and be reliable. This car has been. I personally prefer toyotas, my corolla got better gas mileage and was funner to drive. I dont like the heavy feel that hondas have but some people do. I am tall and dont have a lot of leg room and the seats arent comfortable for me. I was content with it until we had our second child, with two car seats in the back and a stroller in the trunk theres no extra room. Id recommend this car to somebody who just wants a reliable commuter car.

  • Lexus LS 400 to Honda Civic Hybrid - 2003 Honda Civic

I needed to replace my 1991 LS400 and became interested in the hybrid when fuel prices spiked. Although definitely not a Lexus, I have been very satisfied with my purchase. Car is roomy and performs better than one would expect. Its also true that the Civic Hybrids battery guages will change your driving behavior. Im convinced the same gauge in regular gas powered cars would significantly reduce gas consumption. Im also impressed by very good balance between luxury/convenience features and environmentally friendly technology. And I wish I had a dollar for everyone who asks, "But where do you plug it in?"
