This Year's Model Updates:

Marking the changes for the 2009 Honda Civic are a slight nose and tail job, new wheel designs, a pair of new trim levels (LX-S and DX Value Package) and a number of high-tech enhancements (including Bluetooth availability and a USB audio input).

Pros:
  • Wide-ranging engine lineup offers both fuel efficiency and performance, roomy and refined interior, strong crash test scores, available as a sedan or coupe.
Cons:
  • Controversial gauge cluster design, Bluetooth and stability control only available on upper trims, slow acceleration times of Hybrid and GX models.

  • Great Little Car - 2009 Honda Civic

Bought this as an efficient second vehicle and find myself using it every time I go out the door. Easy to handle, plenty of zip, quick to park and not one issue in 10,000 miles. Plenty of room for my 63" 250 body.

  • Gas mileage??? - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

After over a year of research and shopping we decided it was a no-brainer to go with the Civic. The car has 1500 miles on it, and the best mpg we got was 25.4. The mix is about 70% highway, 30% around town. Honda customer care and the dealership both say the mileage should improve after or around the 1st oil change. 5000 miles. We both work at home so we wont find out until next year about August. Sounds like Im getting the run-a-round from both. We like everything else about the car, but we bought it mainly because of its great gas mileage.

Traded in my old Jeep Cherokee with the CARS program. Fun to drive, great mileage (35 mpg on first two tanks in mixed driving). Sporty handling. I like both the interior design and the exterior. Drove a Corolla and Maxda 3 and liked this best overall.

This car is not fun to drive, bottom line my first trip from the north to Florida the car averaged 34 MPG, car was loaded down and bikes on the back. My Std CRV did 28, this investment was a waste of money, I would return to a CRV in heartbeat. Every overpass it downshifts, underpowered.

  • Some short Comings!!! - 2009 Honda Civic

After owning for 5 months, some of the glamor has worn off. I bought it for economy and it is very good in that department. As far as driving I hate the fact that you cant see the right side to judge or even the left front, thats a minus. Also with the hybrid I would not recommend it if you live in hilly country, has little or no power on grades. Seats are not comfortable, esp if youre over 21.

  • Please note during break in period!! - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

This is a great car and I have posted before about the tire pressure, but it is important that you also DO NOT change the oil during the break in period until you get down to 10% oil change indicator. We are pushed to change the oil ASAP all the time, but on the first go around, FOLLOW THE MANUAL and get the most out of the break in additives from Honda. Just a great performing vehicle. Man, the money you cant beat the quality, reliability and durability!

  • Still a solid, everyday car - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

Purchased the Civic based on its reputation above all else. Wanted a reliable, fuel-efficient, decent sized starter car. To this point it has not disappointed. It has a fairly roomy interior (can comfortably fit 4 people who are under 6 feet tall). The dashboard design is useful with the mph gauge sitting above the rpm gauge--have had no problems with it. If anything, it is more convenient because your eyes barely have to glance down to see your speed. I have been getting mileage along the lines expected: 28ish city/traffic driving and 36ish highway. The drive and handling is smooth enough, but Im no expert on that.

  • Economy, but not so much fun.... - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

I have had this car for 5 months, great economy, not a pleasure to drive. The visibility on right side is none, you cant sit high enough to judge how close you are. Please when going up a hill stay in right lane, there is no power to pass or accelerate. The car is very low, can bottom out easy. I also get back aches from driving long distances. But it is what it is good on fuel. I will be heading to Florida soon, that will tell the story.

  • What can I say, its made by Honda - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought my Civic Si and 2 weeks later took it on a 3,000 mile journey. My gas mileage was low 30s and the seats were comfortable. I am very satisfied with my purchase and use it as my everyday ride.

  • Best Value For An Economy Car - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

Build quality and performance for the money is tops. A fun car to drive, a drivers car. Love the 6 speed manual. Gas mileage is tops for a performance a car. Honda should include the following items: glove box light, window switch lights for passenger side and rear side windows (4-doors). Only drivers window switch is lighted. Would like fog lights on without having headlights on, would like to have switch to turn off day time driving lights. Dual exhaust would look cool.
