This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
Cons:
  • Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

  • Good Commuter Car - 2006 Honda Civic

Car is a great commuter car. Comfy and good steering feel. I drive 50% Highway/City. Ive owned the car for 3 months now and I have 2 complaints. Im only averaging 27.0 mpg driving normally. Trying to be as light footed as possible, I managed 29.8mpg. Driving agressively gets me 25mpg. I took it to the dealer and they insist its my driving. Nothing wrong with the alignment. The other problem is the really cheap sun visor. When I move it to the side to block the sun. It feels really cheap and when I turn left slightly faster than normal, it swings around and knocks me in the head. This has happened to me over 6 times and now I have to use my left hand to hold it when I turn

Drive it gently and hold your speed down to never more than 65 on any roadway including interstates (hard to do) and you will see mileage in the 60s and occasionally even slightly over 70. Honda, you did a wonderful job with this vehicle - but many are complaining about low mileage because they drive it like an Acura TL. I like to call my new driving style "Priest in a Funeral" - or PIF for short. Im a happy camper. Design flaws? 1. Emergency brake handle placement 2. Sun visors that wont slide when moved to the side. 3. Gas overflow that spills directly on the left rear tire

  • Best in its class??? - 2006 Honda Civic

Honda did a very good job with this new Civic, but their marketing department really went into overdrive. I like a lot of things about the design, and the road noise isnt that bad. Some things however dont add up right. First of all the mileage is way below what they claim. Im getting 29mpg doing 75% highway 25% city driving. Thats without the AC and driving conservatively. The extremely slanted windshield makes for poor visibility on left turns (due to the post).

Love the new body style. Its very sporty looking. The standard alloy wheels really makes the Civic look cool! Handles great and the interior quality is excellent. Fun to drive and a real head turner. ABS and side curtain air bags are standard and thats what sold me(along with the gas mileage).

When I got the car I was so excited being my first car. When I got it home I started to notice how fragile the interior was. There were already scratches on some parts of the dash like some one took a pen and scrape it. The plastic on the door felt so cheap to the point where it was scratched by a card board box that left permanent marks one the door. There were scuff marks from my shoes on the driver side floor panel that could not be taken out. The floor mats were also poor quality the mats are foam backed! There was a wear mark on where my foot would rest for the clutch. My passenger seat would rattle when driving. Paint on the car cheap. this is all after 6 months what happened honda?

  • New Civic Coupe EX - 2006 Honda Civic

I just got the new Civic coupe over the Renault Megane 3 weeks ago and the car is very handsome. It have a very good ride, I like its firm suspension but the tires that come in the mexican version (goodyear) doesn´t have very good grip the ABS kicks in very easily and tend to slip in high speed cornering. The brake pedal feeling is puffy at first then the brakes bites in no time they are difficult to modulate.

  • Terrible MPG for short commutes - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Very disappointed with 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid fuel efficiency. During past winter (2006-07) only got 22-26 mpg! Drove only for short commutes. The HCH gets nowhere near the estimated EPA MPG when used for short commutes, especially during the winter. The brakes slip very slightly when car is stopping.

So far Ive enjoyed this car. Ride could be a little less bumpy but it is a coupe after all. Gas mileage is great. I get a lot of stares when driving this car.

  • Good MPG even doin 75MPH - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

We traded off the gas guzzler Expedition for this communter. It handles very well and gets about 36 MPG average on the HWY running 75-80 MPH. The interior is basic but for the price I cant complain. The seats arent as comfortable on long trips, and the trim is plastic for the most part. I am concerned with the drive train in the automatic as it sometimes feels as if there is play in going from off the gas to back on. I figure its under warranty and if it needs service our dealer will take care of us.

  • Civic Re-designed - 2006 Honda Civic

In search for a reliable and sporty commuter car the new Civic came up on my list for consideration. Price and performance (40 mpg) were factors for a tie breaker, this is were the Civic coupe won us over. From the unique instrumentation layout to the ergonomics of driver position and controls it was evident that a conciderable amount of thought and design went into the Civic. To that end there are hundreds of sensors and electronics in this vehicle that can cause havoic. We have had a problem with the "check gas cap" since we drove the vehicle off the lot. Dealers response was check the cap.... Fit, form and function... great!!
