A host of minor changes bring the Civic into 2003. On the inside, all models gain improved seat fabrics, rear adjustable outboard headrests and new four-spoke steering wheels. On HX, LX and EX Civics, you'll find improved gauge illumination. There's a new center console for LX and EX, and a CD player is standard for HX and LX. On the outside, the 2003 Honda Civic has freshened taillamps and new wheel designs. Also, there is a Hybrid Civic available for the 2003 model year.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

  • great car/poor mileage - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

This a great car! Very comfortable, very responsive. My only complaint is the mileage. 36MPG with CVT with 4,500 miles on the odometer.Dealer says it will improve after 5,000miles. I could have bought a Civic LX for $5,000 less and got the same mileage!

  • Excellent commuter vehicle - 2003 Honda Civic

Owned it for last 2 years - no problems. Easy comfy ride for a commuter car. Very fuel-efficient.

  • No fuel cells yet? Next Best... - 2003 Honda Civic

Fun to watch the mpg panels, great to get up to 55 mpg! Feel like youre putting your money where your mouth is, to save gas and lower emissions. Smooth ride, peppy, Honda quality. Very quiet. I have only had Accords before, but this one is fine. Solid feel, smooth transitions. For once, I get a new car and I dont suddenly see them everywhere, unique! But this would be good...

  • Honda Civic Si - 2003 Honda Civic

Well what can I say. Its a honda civic Si. So its going to last forever and its a fast for an economy car. Its not going to win any races with a Mustang or big V8 or V6. Its not built to do that. It is built to last, run with min maint and fuel eff. It provides both, most I should have to pay for repairs in a given year is $600- 700 and that is all the way up to 150,000 miles. It will more than easily make it there. Im coming from a Honda Accord 2001 V6, 101000 miles. Now the 01 would beat my new civic. But the fun to drive factor cant be denied. The civic is a blast, not to mention when Im running it up to the red line at 6800 rpm Im still able to get 27-30 mpg.

I love my civic. Like all others it lacks its "get up and go". But I know that it is very reliable and dependable and its a great value. Its an overall winner.

  • Buy an HX Coupe - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

It was hard to find this car, but it was worth the hunt. The HX gets 44 mpg on the road and comes standard with alloy wheels, CD player and more, so in my opinion its the best Civic and really looks good in the blue metallic color with a spoiler. I got the 5 spd and its pretty peppy and like all Hondas, its very solid (no rattles at all). Probably the best thing however is still the gas mileage. If you want a fun, solid, economical coupe, consider the Honda Civic HX coupe, if you can find one.

  • Best car for the money - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

Currently I have 20,000 miles on the car with one problem with the power outlet. Im impressed with the fuel economy which is better than I expected. Best is 36 mpg in spring & fall when AC not in use. Worst is 33mpg in winter and when AC in use. Driving is rural country roads with stop sign every 1~4 miles. Power train is refined and smooth compared to other cars Ive had in this class. I was not happy with the handling, a little too much body roll. Ive heard theyve dialed in a little more softness into the suspension of this iteration of the Civic.

  • A lot of car for the money - 2003 Honda Civic

Its a better car than many journalists have suggested. It isnt quite as quick as some of its competition, but thats mostly do to an overly conservative rev limiter that forces the use of third gear to get to 60. What reviewers havent mentioned enough is that this car exudes quality. It is very well made. Sure, its funky looking, but very functional, and still fun. Engine is strong and smooth. The car does everything well. 6 footers can sit in the back seat. Very good crash test scores. Can be had for very good prices.

  • Terrific Car, But Too Much Plastic - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I have my Civic one month now.As always Honda reliability is number one. Only one complaint. Interior has too much plastic finish and as a result, I have a rattle somewhere under the dash near the steering column. For such a beautiful car, what an irritation. The car performs well and the ride is very smooth. Gas mileage is great. This is my fourth Honda and I wouldnt drive anything else.
