  • 2 years and Done with CRV - 2002 Honda CR-V

Weve owned this car for 30 months and 43K miles. Boy this car started to wear on us. Had to replace the tires, the Firestone tires were coming apart in little chunks. Every other OEM tire has lasted at least 65K. Armrests are terrible. The check engine light always comes on. Stereo is weak. The most odd thing is the handling on ice/snow. The car feels like it is sliding all over the place, even though it isnt. It always goes exactly where I pointed it but has a lateral slide feel to it.... CRV has worn us out, but I have faith in Honda so on to the PILOT.

Have had problems with warping of the brake disc and was told this happends often by the dealer. Tire wear is uneven and the car drives stiff.

2002 Honda CRV-this is the worst vehicle mechanically we have ever owned. We are getting rid of itBrakes came unglued at 37000 miles, air conditioning compressor has failed twice, air bag sensor went, alternator went, brakes again. major repairs all and to significant safety systems. Honda has refused to buy back vehicle- and while they have helped with parts after much fighting with them basic message is you are on your own if you dont have an extended warranty. In addition gas mileage is less than advertised and handling in the snow is just marginal. Good riddance

Researched SUVs for about 8 months and finally decided on the CRV after my wife asked me to test drive it. I loved it immediately. When I compared numbers on paper I was even more impressed, I will guarante that you will not find a vehicle in this class/range with the combination of efficiency, safety, reliability, affordability, and fun. Also, dont let some errors in recent advertising deceive you, the CRV tied with Subaru Forester for best in class for safest vehicle by the current IIHS data (www.iihs.org). This is my third Honda purchase (2 Accords previously), you will find better warranties out there, but you wont need one with a Honda.

  • Do NOT buy a CRV made in UK - 2002 Honda CR-V

Be forewarned. If you are looking for a CRV, do not buy one manufactured in the UK. Have had numerous recalls and 8 warranty claims within 30K miles. Very poor quality control. Honda generally builds good vehicles, just avoid those built in the UK.

    Roomy interior, visually attractive exterior.

When we first bought out CR-V I loved it and considered buying a second one. Interior space, standard features and performance were among our likes. Since then, it has been recalled 5-6 times, and one item with the shifter has been a recurring problem. I also had to replace the back brakes, including rotors, at 25k for about $400 due to a stuck inboard caliper that dug up the rotor. The paint quality is terrible, it scratches very easily. I notice others with the same problem of scratches around the door handles. The door switches also keep failing (3 of them) which has caused us to leave the lights on more than once and kill the battery.

  • dissapointment - 2002 Honda CR-V

Right after manufacturers warranty expired, V-Tech oil pressure switch failure, driver side electric window mechanism had to be replaced and AC compressor had to be replaced. This is my 3 Honda and by far, the biggest dissapointment...

  • Good Little SUV - 2002 Honda CR-V

Overall a very reliable, comfortable, and well laid-out vehicle. Kudos for the interior layout - everything is right where its supposed to be. Well, the automatic gear shift takes a bit of getting used to... just close your eyes and pretend its attached to the steering column. In two years, Ive had only one problem: the outer left rear brake lining detached from the metal backing pad. This caused the most awful metal-on-metal sound. Replaced the rear brake pads & had no more problems. One note: dont get the black exterior paint unless you have the means to have the car washed daily! The OEM stamped steel wheels are also a bit cheesy go aluminum.

The head rests, both front and back seats, interfer with looking over your shoulder when back, to see if you are clear. I took the rear seat ones out, but the front seat still cause a problem. The handle of the gear shift on the dash, should be a different shape. I am still not convinced it shoudl be where it is. Would rather have the tire inside, where the table currently is.
