  • 2nd time around - 2008 Honda CR-V

Just love my CR-V. This is number two. Had 2000 and gave to daughter . (she wanted to "buy it" because it was my 8- yr old car. She knew it never missed an oil change and was not in Katrina). This one has more "suave style". Other was what I called a "kicky little thing". Fun to drive. This one does not handle quite as easily (me?). Is a bit bigger and still feels different. I did have the other one 8nyears. Does do ok though. 28+ gas mileage. Bought in mid Jan 08 have 3500 miles now with a 750 mile trip in there. I do combo suburban - city drive to work.

I decided to buy this car based on Edmunds editor and consumer reviews, track record, price, and purported high gas mileage. I was selecting between the Mazda CX-9 and the Nissan Murano, and the CR-V. Since I was replacing a Toyota Camry, I thought that the size of the CR-V would be fine. The price was lower than the other two and the gas mileage, I thought would be great in comparison to the other two vehicles. Even though I receive about 24 to 25.5 mpg on my commutes according to the car, I can still only seem to average about 300 miles or 20 mpg per tank. I drive mostly highway miles and the mileage range advertised is not for the AWD models

  • Loved it...until it hit 60,000 miles :( - 2008 Honda CR-V

I bought a 2008 CR-V brand new, straight off the boat, and loved it. Friends, family, and coworkers had CR-Vs, and loved theirs also, until they all started to get hit by the "A/C gremlin" in about 2012-2014 - Complete A/C failure in sister-in-laws 2007 CR-V, friends 2008 CR-V, and coworkers 2007 CR-V AND his 2009 CR-V! And they were NOT cheap repairs (except for my coworkers 2009 CR-V, which was still under warranty). Me? I got hit with rack & pinion failure - at 60,000 miles, just like many other reviewers on the internet. Estimated repair cost $2,100 !!! Honda gave me a bottle of power steering fluid and said "just keep topping it off until you can afford to fix it." But when I researched it on the internet, I found this is quite a common problem, and one with a fix that apparently does not last long. So rather than dump $2,000 into fixing the power steering leak which is known to be a recurring failure once you get it, I dumped the car altogether. Hondas are supposed to last - I bought it because I thought they had a reputation for long term reliability. 60,000 is NOT LONG-term, IMO. I hated feeling like I was sitting on a ticking time bomb, with $2,000 possible repairs with every oil change (and Honda would NOT help, despite knowing rack & pinion failure was a common problem). The original plan was to keep the CR-V until my daughter turned 16 (last month), then give it to her (and buy a new car for myself). Instead, I dumped the CR-V last year and bought a new Subaru Forrester. And now that I read about the failure in the locks, I feel reassured I made the right decision, because my CR-Vs locks always made strange noises, tho they had not failed....yet. Im sure it was just a matter of time before they failed. Same with the A/C. Im now looking for a RELIABLE used car for my 16 year old, and you can bet it will NOT be a CR-V :/

  • Love my CRV but not the gas mileage - 2008 Honda CR-V

Did not like previous CRV models so thought about a Rav4. After a few trips with a friend, chose the CRV; inside feels more upscale and spacious and the area is bigger. My only addition is something only Ford seems to use now; keyless number pad on the door. Only complaint is gas mileage. I avg 22 mpg at best when I combine 50% short trips (2 to 5) and a 50% hwy trips (20 each way). Even when I drove 120 miles each way on a trip, I barely got 25mpg (is it my luggage rack or me?) My last car, a Toyota Avalon V6, averaged 22 and 27. As for complaints about accelerating on to hwys and or passing; even w/5 adults the car was quick. Maybe other reviewers had > 850 lbs in car (weight max).

This is our first import purchase, and have only had this vehicle for two weeks. In this time of astronomical gas prices, we took a gamble in purchasing an SUV-type vehicle. We were hoping for better gas mileage like many other reviewers, but barely 20 mpg is all we get so far with this 4-cylinder rather under-powered cross-over. Handles well, but ride is rough. Hoping the Honda reputation stands true for our new CR-V as we keep our vehicles for the long haul.

  • great car under 30K - 2008 Honda CR-V

I just purchased a Honda CRV EX and I am very happy with my purchase. A great car to zip around town and has great mpg on the HWY I am getting 29 mpg on the highway. It handles very well and the view is excellent. There doesnt seem to be many blind spots. Its built very well. The doors are solid and the interior is well designed. There is a lot of room in the car and plenty of storage areas. There is plenty of leg room in the rear seats and could fit two car seats very comfortably. Its a great value for the price!!

  • CRV - Smaller SUV but Excellent - 2008 Honda CR-V

The Honda CRV is an excellent, smaller SUV. We are a family of four and it suits our needs perfectly. Comfortable seats (my husband is 6 3" and the seat adjusts higher or lower), great turning radius, good gas mileage and lots storage in the rear. More importantly very low maintenance! Just keep getting the oil changed and itll run forever.

  • An expensive lesson - 2008 Honda CR-V
    By -

We left our 2005 CR-V SE at our winter home in Arizona with the intention of buying a new Honda Accord when we arrived in N.C. We purchased the Accord EXL. Immediately we knew that we made a huge error. After 3600 miles, we traded for a New CR-V EXL. We are hooked. I actually attained 36 MPG on a freeway trip driving at 59 MPH with the cruise control set. Unfortunately, the trade was expensive because I was at the dealers mercy. Am I sorry? Heck no. It only hurt for a little while and WE LOVE our two CR-Vs.
