Make Overview:

As the market for import automotive brands became dramatically larger in the late 1980s, the Detroit automobile companies created their own import-style sales divisions. In 1989 General Motors introduced its Geo division, which became the most successful of these attempts before the division was discontinued in 1998.

Geo re-badged various GM cars made for world markets. Its most notable success came with the Geo Prizm, a version of the Toyota Corolla then being built cooperatively in a California assembly plant by Toyota and GM. The Geo Metro compact car began life as the Suzuki Swift, while the Geo Tracker sport-utility vehicle was derived from the Suzuki Sidekick. The Geo Spectrum sedan was an Isuzu I-Mark and the Geo Storm coupe was an Isuzu Impulse.

The experiment ended because the Geo division was unable to establish a stronger identity than the brands from which its products were taken. Moreover, GM quickly realized that Geo was simply funneling its brand loyalists into the import brands of other companies.

  • The best car that Ive ever owned - 1997 Geo Prizm
    By -

Ive been driving for 50 yrs. now, and have owned a lot of cars during this time. My 1997 Geo Prizm, which I have been driving for 9 yrs now, is absolutely the best car that I have ever owned, I have had zero problems, only the starter replaced, after 9 yrs. and a set of tires is all. I love my Geo Prizm. If anyone out there needs to buy a used car, I suggest this Geo, youll love it

  • I like it - 1996 Geo Metro

I drive 26 miles one way to work and bought the little thing at almost a steal! With 99800 miles on it, looked good, very simple, well maintained by the previous owner, almost like new! I bought the little scamp for fuel mileage, and didnÂ’t expect much, but itÂ’s the best car IÂ’ve bought in a long time! So far I figure it gets an honest 46 mpg (mostly highway)! IÂ’m impressed, with one exception... hills. Eh, I can live with that for the fuel economy though! I plan to see how long this thing will last, 250000 miles? I donÂ’t see why not! Regular maintenance, a set of vent visors, and a cup holder is all it should need! Too bad they donÂ’t build em like this anymore! Guess it was too good to last!

Awesome no frills car. This is a perfect car for new driver. Mine was a 5-speed and got great gas mileage. This was Toyota workmanship at its best. I had no major issues of any kind. A/C was ice cold, steering was awesome and it had plenty of pep with its 1.6 4-cyl. Most importantly, it is a very safe care. Mine was accordioned between two vans on the DC beltway at 50 mph. Although the car was totaled, my son and I walked away without even a scratch. The cabin area was untouched. This is the perfect point A to point B car.

  • It keeps on going - 1994 Geo Metro

Ive owned this car since new and have used and abused it. It just keeps going. Ive kept it well maintained and put on a lot of miles in town and on road trips. I also use it for mountain biking around the Tucson mountains, and it handles rough terrain like a mountain goat. Still averages 38 mpg in town, with the AC running! Overall, Id say it is the best car Ive ever owned. Its got great pick-up with the five-speed, manual transmission.

  • Prizm good... - 1990 Geo Prizm

I love this car, its been no problem so far, and the mileage is awesome! Its just a little 1.6 liter, but for having 152k miles on it, it drives like a champ!!

  • Outstanding Vehicle - 1991 Geo Metro
    By -

Originally bought this car for gas mileage and had planned to keep for 3-5 years. I figured it was more of a throw away car to be used no longer than the 100,000 mile mark. Ten years later and 135,000 miles I am ready to restore this vehicle because it has been one of the most reliable vehicle I have owned in the last 15 years.

  • How great is this car - 1992 Geo Metro
    By -

This car has been the best car that I have ever owned. It is a 1992 model that I bought in Oct. 1991. Today it is Mar. 2007 and I have 206,000 miles on it and it uses no oil between changes and the only repair that I have had is a starter motor that went bad after 150,000 miles. I will never sell this car at any price. I get 47 MPG and the 12 in. tires only cost about $100.00 for all four, and it will cruise on the interstate at any speed you want it-even up to 100mph. I usually drive it there at about 75mph.

  • Geo Tracker - 1995 Geo Tracker

I like being able to drive down the road and pull off on any gravel road and go for a ride. If you can see between two trees, chances are the geo tracker can drive there also.

  • A Car that does the Job - 1996 Geo Prizm
    By -

This car is meant for a person who doesnt want to spend much money, and get more than what paid for. This car is great for a beginning driver, with plenty of room for the driver, and with Toyota quality.

  • Ill buy yours!! - 1994 Geo Prizm
    By -

Just bought the Prizm @ 177,000 miles. Using it as a winter beater. I couldnt have picked a better car. Perfect running condition. Strong 1.6L (didnt expect that). Handles in the snow like a champ!!. Starts right up, even in the negative degrees, and trust me, in Mn, it gets well under. The 5-spd. gets great MPG. Auto windows, locks all work. Resale value is strong. People really love these cars. Looked up parts before I bought it. They are all cheap. Perfect car.
