Make Overview:

As the market for import automotive brands became dramatically larger in the late 1980s, the Detroit automobile companies created their own import-style sales divisions. In 1989 General Motors introduced its Geo division, which became the most successful of these attempts before the division was discontinued in 1998.

Geo re-badged various GM cars made for world markets. Its most notable success came with the Geo Prizm, a version of the Toyota Corolla then being built cooperatively in a California assembly plant by Toyota and GM. The Geo Metro compact car began life as the Suzuki Swift, while the Geo Tracker sport-utility vehicle was derived from the Suzuki Sidekick. The Geo Spectrum sedan was an Isuzu I-Mark and the Geo Storm coupe was an Isuzu Impulse.

The experiment ended because the Geo division was unable to establish a stronger identity than the brands from which its products were taken. Moreover, GM quickly realized that Geo was simply funneling its brand loyalists into the import brands of other companies.

  • NEVER AGAIN - 1997 Geo Metro

  • Economic - Not Exquisite - 1997 Geo Metro

In terms of achieving my goal, this car has more than met it. I wanted an interim, inexpensive, small, dependable car I could load my keyboard & amp in & out of with relative ease. For 5 years it’s consistently done the job. Tires, hubcaps, & rear axle have been replaced. After the first year (󈨦) I had no air conditioning because the frion ran out. But the heater works great & the gas hikes haven’t phased me- -I’m still paying less per month than I do for cable TV. It’s a great little car with surprisingly good pick-up, no slowing on hills, easy on the turns, but tough to park without power steering.

  • Good Car for the money - 1990 Geo Storm
    By -

My grandmother gave me my Storm. She bought it brand new in 1990. She loved it. It never gave them any serious trouble, got good gas mileage, and had cheap insurance. The only reason she gave it to me is because she is handicapped and cannot get out of the house by herself. She needeed a bigger vehicle. Anyways, I think that the Storm is a good first car for a teenager. It has good styling, especially considering its age, it has good fuel economy and cheap insurance. And an airbag, which many cars this old dont have. It could use another speed in the base models auto, but other than that no big design prob. Overall, a good , reliable car for not much money.

  • Financial burden - 1993 Geo Prizm
    By -

I have had this vechile for 4 years exactly. The first year I had no problems but by the second year I needed a brand new alternator, then recently got a whole new brake system and the final straw was after spending all this money on maintaining this vechile the engine blows on me-- now only has 2 cylinders. Save yourself the headache. I wish I did.
