Overview & Reviews
As the market for import automotive brands became dramatically larger in the late 1980s, the Detroit automobile companies created their own import-style sales divisions. In 1989 General Motors introduced its Geo division, which became the most successful of these attempts before the division was discontinued in 1998.
Geo re-badged various GM cars made for world markets. Its most notable success came with the Geo Prizm, a version of the Toyota Corolla then being built cooperatively in a California assembly plant by Toyota and GM. The Geo Metro compact car began life as the Suzuki Swift, while the Geo Tracker sport-utility vehicle was derived from the Suzuki Sidekick. The Geo Spectrum sedan was an Isuzu I-Mark and the Geo Storm coupe was an Isuzu Impulse.
The experiment ended because the Geo division was unable to establish a stronger identity than the brands from which its products were taken. Moreover, GM quickly realized that Geo was simply funneling its brand loyalists into the import brands of other companies.

i <3 MAI GEO PRIZM SO MUCH - 1996 Geo Prizm
By pole16 - January 23 - 2:39 pmIt was a sunny day in 1997 when I first laid eyes on on the beauty i would come to know as VERONIKA. I spent my formative years growing up with this car, i remember endless summers riding with my family out to california to explore modern america! As I approached the age of 16 when this car was still the "nice one" I was humbled and delighted to recieve this vehicle. Me and VERONIKA have spent some of my best years together, but she was dependible through the worst. Now, as I approach the end of my life, VERONIKA approaches her end also. She has a hefty 423,761 load on her, and while she still goes to town, her age is showing. I will allways remember VERONIKA as my truested escort, forever.

Best Little Car On the Market - 1997 Geo Tracker
By vw1973 - December 26 - 3:18 pmI bought my Tracker for $1750 it had 73,800 miles on it, ran awesome, and was in good shape for a 14 year old car. One of the best moves Ive ever made. In the winter its great because it has 4x4 and is amazing in the snow. In the summer its great because its a convertible and its surprisingly phenomenal off-road, even when completely stock. Its durable and can handle lots of work. For such a small car it can fit 1/3 cord of wood, and you wont wreck the strong interior. Its uncomfortable and 55mph on the highway is 3K rpm, but it gets 35 mpg, its amazingly reliable, and it has the heart and soul of a big truck.

The BEST Car Ever - 1995 Geo Prizm
By portes - November 29 - 10:19 pmMy great Geo Prizm 95 LSI (automatic) just reached 300,000 trouble free miles. That is 60,000 more miles than going to the moon. No special maintenance and no special anything. Just regular oil changes. Only replaced wearable parts such as breaks, alternator, starter, and catalytic converter once or twice. Everything else has been flawless.

Amazing Little Car - 1995 Geo Prizm
By lenorek - August 13 - 9:55 amI got this car for 2200 dollars after my (terrible) Saturn SL1 was rear ended into oblivion. I expected it would be good for a little while until I bought a "real car". Was I wrong, it was a GREAT car. with sixteen years and nearly 180K miles, it has needed very few things. Granted, it was a one owner vehicle and the person who had it maintained it meticulously. Still, I think it is very impressive that a car that retailed for around 14K in 1985 has only had one alternator replacement, one new set of brakes, front ball joint replacements and a wheel well repair. I also opted to change the timing belt. I have my Corolla now, gave Geo to my husband but I highly recommend this car.

Best Car Ever - 1995 Geo Tracker
By georgianna - May 5 - 1:48 pmI bought this little guy new off the lot. I thought it was so cute that I fell in love with it. Now, 16 years later, I have to say that I am more than just impressed with its looks. I have never had to do any repairs. All it has ever needed is gas, oil, brake pads and air filters. Oh, and tires - because I have run the wheels off of it. I replaced the soft top twice. For the past 10 years, I have considered putting on a hard top but always thought that the car was too old to put that much money into it. Then, considering I have never even replaced a fan belt, finally decided the car is not going to break anytime soon so decided to go ahead. I think Ill keep it forever!

BRAKES SUCK!!! - 1997 Geo Tracker
By lukebecker - April 25 - 1:46 pmI bought this for about 6K and Hated it. The 4x4 worked ok, but is sits low to the ground so when I tried to go over snow banks (WI) I would get hung up and which the 4 wheel couldnt pull me off of. I am 6 foot tall and talk about rough sitting in this thing. My leg was always pushing on the center counsel thing. No cruise. didnt hold its value for crap. And I (who has been driving sticks for his whole life) "Burnt the clutch out" before the car hit 100K. Only car that "I" have ever "broke."

no good deed goes unpunished - 1994 Geo Metro
By yuba4 - March 14 - 1:13 pm94 2-door hatchback, bought new. Used for commuting from 94-96. Excellent commuter car (after stereo upgrade). Averaged 45 mpg. From 0-5 mph, as fast as anything! Then the flywheel momentum was conferred. I actually loved this car, but unfortunately its not for a young single man. People just dont want to understand why someone would drive this. It was a good car, but nearly impossible to sell during the boom years of the mid-90s. Later drove a 96 for another two years - same comments
