Make Overview:

As the market for import automotive brands became dramatically larger in the late 1980s, the Detroit automobile companies created their own import-style sales divisions. In 1989 General Motors introduced its Geo division, which became the most successful of these attempts before the division was discontinued in 1998.

Geo re-badged various GM cars made for world markets. Its most notable success came with the Geo Prizm, a version of the Toyota Corolla then being built cooperatively in a California assembly plant by Toyota and GM. The Geo Metro compact car began life as the Suzuki Swift, while the Geo Tracker sport-utility vehicle was derived from the Suzuki Sidekick. The Geo Spectrum sedan was an Isuzu I-Mark and the Geo Storm coupe was an Isuzu Impulse.

The experiment ended because the Geo division was unable to establish a stronger identity than the brands from which its products were taken. Moreover, GM quickly realized that Geo was simply funneling its brand loyalists into the import brands of other companies.

  • Geo Metro an Excellent Car - 1996 Geo Metro

Ive put 50,177 miles on my Geo in the last 5 years. I get between 40-45 miles per gallon, depending on city or hwy. Most of my driving is a combination of the two. The only repairs Ive had to make is a new muffler (the core rusted off). Its very reliable, starts up even after sitting a couple months in storage. Its easy to park, turn around in tight places, has a seperate trunk that is huge, amazing feature for this trim car. I do wish it had a rear defroster sometimes, but the heater is very adequate even in January in IL.

  • lovin the gas mileage! - 1994 Geo Metro

Ive had my Metro since Sept 2003 with 81,000 miles on it. It now has 106k on it. I drive it a lot and it has been very dependable. The only thing Ive had to buy for mine was a muffler when I first got it and a new battery, not to mention the regular oil changes and the tune up. I will be doing that again soon as winter is approaching. One thing though ... both windows are off track and the door handles broke off easy ... Im not sure if this is a common Metro problem or not. But, you can still get out of it. I need to buy a new antenna since mine has broken off from parking under a tree and need to possibly buy a new hood because of hail damage.

95 Prizm, 5 speed. Purchased New, only repair has been the starter. No other problems at all. good gas milage and real comfortble and fun to drive. Last week was T-boned at an intersection, by large full size car, doing about 50 mph. was not hurt at all, of course due to its age and speed of impact, car is totaled. looking for another one, but they are hard to find in my area.

I havent owned mine for 7 all most cost free years.

  • The 96 Geo Trackers worth more recycled - 1996 Geo Tracker

I have owned this vehicle for a short amount of time and put enough money in repairs and parts to buy it a second time. It breaks down quite frequently and would probably have better luck with public transportation. I recommend this vehicle to nobody. The car sees more time at the garage than on the road. I only drive it back and forth on paved roads 30 minutes round trip to work 5 times a week. This vehicle only has 88,000 miles and had almost half of all its parts replaced. This week alone it broke down three times. As soon as I can afford it Im buying a much more reliable vehicle.

  • Excellent for students - 1994 Geo Tracker

This truck is excellent for students and to ride it with your friends. Its my first car and I love it. I havent had any major problems since I have it. Its small, tall, everybody looks at you, and future collectible car, a "micromachine"!

  • The Phatty G-Ride - 1991 Geo Prizm
    By -

This is quite possibly the greatest car ever built. It handles like a Porsche, and has the sophistication of a Crown Vic. I will continue to buy these cars for the rest of my life, even if they are now made by Chevy. I do wish that Geo was still around, because there is much pride beaming from the faces of Geo owners when they look at their grill and see that geodesic-esque symbol that sreams, "Hey look at me! I am QUALITY!"

  • I love my Geo - 1995 Geo Metro

  • VERY, VERY RELIABLE LITTLE CAR - 1993 Geo Prizm
    By -

Its so great to see so many reviews that share my opinion on this wonderful vehicle! I wanted to buy a car that would NEVER fail me, and almost a decade later, the Prizm has consistently shown its up to the task! Regular oil changes and routine maintenance keep my Prizm humming like it just rolled off the lot. I might even get it repainted.
