Make Overview:

As the market for import automotive brands became dramatically larger in the late 1980s, the Detroit automobile companies created their own import-style sales divisions. In 1989 General Motors introduced its Geo division, which became the most successful of these attempts before the division was discontinued in 1998.

Geo re-badged various GM cars made for world markets. Its most notable success came with the Geo Prizm, a version of the Toyota Corolla then being built cooperatively in a California assembly plant by Toyota and GM. The Geo Metro compact car began life as the Suzuki Swift, while the Geo Tracker sport-utility vehicle was derived from the Suzuki Sidekick. The Geo Spectrum sedan was an Isuzu I-Mark and the Geo Storm coupe was an Isuzu Impulse.

The experiment ended because the Geo division was unable to establish a stronger identity than the brands from which its products were taken. Moreover, GM quickly realized that Geo was simply funneling its brand loyalists into the import brands of other companies.

  • Good mini SUV - 1994 Geo Tracker

When I have taken it off road, it handled well. 4x4 is good in snow. My Tracker has 132,220 miles on it and it is still going strong.

  • Great First Car!! - 1996 Geo Tracker

Bought this car when I was 18. It was my first car and I absolutely loved it! Even though it didnt have air conditioning, the flip-up roof/convertible feature made it fun to drive. This is a very reliable SUV. The 4WD system is nearly flawless. I started driving to Boulder to see some friends and got caught in a blizzard. I started slipping so I pulled over and turned the 4WD system on - never slipped once after that!

  • It keeps on going - 1994 Geo Metro

Ive owned this car since new and have used and abused it. It just keeps going. Ive kept it well maintained and put on a lot of miles in town and on road trips. I also use it for mountain biking around the Tucson mountains, and it handles rough terrain like a mountain goat. Still averages 38 mpg in town, with the AC running! Overall, Id say it is the best car Ive ever owned. Its got great pick-up with the five-speed, manual transmission.

  • Finally - 1992 Geo Tracker

After getting this cute SUV, had problems with what I thought was the fuel injector. Replaced injector (not a cheap item) but vehicle still wouldnt run. Later found out that computer module had burnt out (yet again not a cheap fix). Replaced computer and now it runs and I love it. Its fun to drive, with the 5 speed tranny, but sometimes wish it had a V-6. Plenty of power, though, for a four banger. Its sporty, fun to drive and I always get compliments about it.

  • Prizm good... - 1990 Geo Prizm

I love this car, its been no problem so far, and the mileage is awesome! Its just a little 1.6 liter, but for having 152k miles on it, it drives like a champ!!

  • Outstanding Vehicle - 1991 Geo Metro
    By -

Originally bought this car for gas mileage and had planned to keep for 3-5 years. I figured it was more of a throw away car to be used no longer than the 100,000 mile mark. Ten years later and 135,000 miles I am ready to restore this vehicle because it has been one of the most reliable vehicle I have owned in the last 15 years.

  • How great is this car - 1992 Geo Metro

This car has been the best car that I have ever owned. It is a 1992 model that I bought in Oct. 1991. Today it is Mar. 2007 and I have 206,000 miles on it and it uses no oil between changes and the only repair that I have had is a starter motor that went bad after 150,000 miles. I will never sell this car at any price. I get 47 MPG and the 12 in. tires only cost about $100.00 for all four, and it will cruise on the interstate at any speed you want it-even up to 100mph. I usually drive it there at about 75mph.

  • Got a Good Deal - 1993 Geo Prizm

I bought my LSi used. It was two years old, but only had about 12k on it. It rides similar to a 92 Corolla, but perhaps with stiffer suspension. Interior is a little cheaper and less practical than a Corolla, but heck for $10k, I have AC, sunroof with tilt that the Corolla LE didnt have, power windows. Engine has been very reliable. It is March 07 and the engine is still fairly quiet when idling and it accelerates fairly smoothly. I did have some electrical issues - power windows malf, radio/clock lite out, speedometer busted, alternator. But it still runs confidently with minimum maintenance. If I only had $1,000 to buy a reliable used car, this would be a killer deal.

I like being able to drive down the road and pull off on any gravel road and go for a ride. If you can see between two trees, chances are the geo tracker can drive there also.

  • 96 Metro - 1996 Geo Metro

I bought this car with about 80,000 mi. on it just over two years ago. I now have reached 100,000 mi. and havent found much to complain about. Havent found much to brag about either. The car has been for the most part quite reliable. The car is a four cylinder with a three speed automatic. I was unpleasantly surprised when I found out I was only getting 30 mpg at best. I think the poor gas mileage is due to the three speed auto tranny. A four speed auto would greatly increase mpg. The only other complaints I have is the small size. I am only 510" and I look and feel like a giant in the car. The car is also extremely vunerable to rust. I have seen cars from the 80s with less rust than my car
