Overview & Reviews
As the market for import automotive brands became dramatically larger in the late 1980s, the Detroit automobile companies created their own import-style sales divisions. In 1989 General Motors introduced its Geo division, which became the most successful of these attempts before the division was discontinued in 1998.
Geo re-badged various GM cars made for world markets. Its most notable success came with the Geo Prizm, a version of the Toyota Corolla then being built cooperatively in a California assembly plant by Toyota and GM. The Geo Metro compact car began life as the Suzuki Swift, while the Geo Tracker sport-utility vehicle was derived from the Suzuki Sidekick. The Geo Spectrum sedan was an Isuzu I-Mark and the Geo Storm coupe was an Isuzu Impulse.
The experiment ended because the Geo division was unable to establish a stronger identity than the brands from which its products were taken. Moreover, GM quickly realized that Geo was simply funneling its brand loyalists into the import brands of other companies.

I cant believe my dad bought this car - 1993 Geo Prizm
By Radish - October 13 - 2:00 amMy parents have spent approx. $800 on repairs for this car. Acceleration, horsepower is poor. Something is draining the battery on the car. This car has stalled in my school parking and a major road during rush hour. DO NOT BUY A GEO PRISM, BUY THE COROLLA, IT IS CHEAPER IN THE END.

Geo Metro - 1991 Geo Metro
By Harry Penrod - May 2 - 2:00 amI really, to be honest, did not like this vehicle. Everything about it stinks and I wish I never bought it. The only thing that could be good about it is if it died in a crash.

beware the geo engine! - 1994 Geo Metro
By carshoppin - March 16 - 2:44 amWhen it started losing power and developed a pinging sound, I was informed by several salvage yards and mechanics that the geo 3 cyl (ALL years) is prone to "dropping cylinders." Sure enough, a compression check confirmed my 3cyl is now a barely running 2 cyl car. New rebuilt engine is $1600, with a 600 core charge, and they wont take the old one for core after the piston drops (as the engine will freeze up). This is the 2nd engine for the vehicle, previous owner replaced orig. engine with one from junkyard for same reason before we bought from him. 157k and went through 2 engines.....hmmmmmm.
