Overview & Reviews
As the market for import automotive brands became dramatically larger in the late 1980s, the Detroit automobile companies created their own import-style sales divisions. In 1989 General Motors introduced its Geo division, which became the most successful of these attempts before the division was discontinued in 1998.
Geo re-badged various GM cars made for world markets. Its most notable success came with the Geo Prizm, a version of the Toyota Corolla then being built cooperatively in a California assembly plant by Toyota and GM. The Geo Metro compact car began life as the Suzuki Swift, while the Geo Tracker sport-utility vehicle was derived from the Suzuki Sidekick. The Geo Spectrum sedan was an Isuzu I-Mark and the Geo Storm coupe was an Isuzu Impulse.
The experiment ended because the Geo division was unable to establish a stronger identity than the brands from which its products were taken. Moreover, GM quickly realized that Geo was simply funneling its brand loyalists into the import brands of other companies.

One of the family - 1993 Geo Prizm
By rayban - February 6 - 2:00 ambought our Prizm just before our first child... 4 children later, and 156,000 miles of driving everywhere our Prizm is still running without problem. All we ever did is regular maintenance outside of replacing an alternator. (after 8 years) this is a very reliable car.

Long Hauler - 1997 Geo Metro
By Kent Bellman - January 26 - 2:00 amThis is the 3rd Geo I have had. I enjoy the excellent gas mileage and the peace of mind that I get when I start it up every day. I know it will always start for me and perform. I bought it used, to help off set the gas consumption of my 99 Silverado. It is easy to tune and oil change. I would recommend it to anyone needing a 2nd dependable car. The after market parts are very expensive.

By regina - January 24 - 2:00 amAfter owning my GEO for 5 years, I now have 143,000 miles on it and am just replacing the starter motor now - thats the only major thing except for replacing the brakes at 130,000 miles! I hope that my next car will be as great as this one. Im sorry to hear they are discontinuing it!

Geo Tracker - 1991 Geo Tracker
By Big Willie - January 22 - 2:00 amPurchased this vehicle for my teenage son in 1994 with 90K miles. Ran fine until recently when I had to have the computer rebuilt($250)which I found out is a very common problem on Trackers and simliar vehicles built between 1989- 1994. Also had to replace the clutch which stands to reason since it currently has over 150K miles. I have the 4WD 5 Speed which is fun to drive. Somewhat noisy on the road (wind), but so are all convertibles. Overall, good experience with this vehicle.

energizer bunny - 1993 Geo Prizm
By girl-dog-car - January 13 - 2:00 amI bought this car when I was in graduate school and for 140,000 miles and 10 years, its been consistently reliable. Every year I waited for problems to give me a good excuse to buy a new car, but it keeps on going! Repairs have been extremely minimal, and only regular maintenance required.
