Would recommend - 2000 GMC Jimmy
By gpbacker - April 28 - 9:12 amReliable vehicle. Bought used at 50,000 miles. Had to replace brakes at 75000. Would like better fuel economy than current 18 mpg, but the initial cost was low enough that it does not matter.

Great truck, dont want to get rid of it - 1991 GMC Jimmy
By BillJohaneson - April 17 - 5:03 pmWell I bought my Jimmy new in 1990 right as they came in with the 1991s. Mine had 30 miles on it when I drove off with it. Now the odometer reads 743,251. This is the truth. I drive over 60,000 miles a year for business and have since 1985. Yes, most of these are highway but that is still impressive. I also take it fishing a lot and to the beach on occasion. I had the transmission done at 427,000 because it was leaking but it was shifting fine. I have just replaced the basics such as alternator, battery, water pump, and mufflers. And just last month I had my heads redone. That is what I call reliability.

I love this thing! - 1999 GMC Jimmy
By Kirk Galt - April 16 - 6:56 pmI really love this vehicle Its comfortable, drives well, and looks great. I had to do all of your basic maintenance, as well as some other stuff, but its well worth it. Ive had the problem with the door hinges, the temperature control actuator failed, and Ive also had the dif rebuilt. Considering that I bought it used, and that its almost seven years old and has over a 100k on it, I think thats pretty good. The motor is strong and runs great, the transmission is good and its a great drive!

Built rock solid, only detroit for me - 1991 GMC Jimmy
By ryanmiller - April 4 - 12:12 amWell I bought this car with 19,000 miles on it and it will not stop running. Right now my odometer turned over to 277,000 and it runs like a new car with no oil burning. I have added many performance parts over the years and often take it to the mountains and beach. I hunt and fish with this as well as offroad alot. I have mine locked and geared raised on 38" TSL swampers.

GMC Jimmy 97 - 1997 GMC Jimmy
By FarmerD - March 31 - 9:27 amThe only major problems I have experienced with the Jimmy has been electrical - had to replace ignition switch which caused "CHECK ENGINE" light to stay on and the transmission to shift erratic. I also had an over heating problem that required me to replace the Radiator pluseI had a minor transmission leak where the shift lever enters the transmission body.

By MakeItAdouble - March 29 - 9:02 pmLots of trouble Heater core plugged 2002 blew out w/water hose. Water pump 2005, brakes & rotors every two years, Ignition switch cause many starting and performance problems 2003, Wipers stopped 2005- This is from the motors cicuit board getting cracked soldered joints, look up online to repair yourself. Door hinge pins shot-2005. Passenger seat handle broke off-2002. Intake manifold leaking 2005, Alternator-2005. Thermostat-2003. Hub assemblies-2002. Battery-2004. Other minor stuff. I learned a lot working on this piece of junk. Its no wonder GM is faultering.

Great SUV and Dependable! - 1995 GMC Jimmy
By S Saunders - March 26 - 11:20 amThis has been an excellent vehicle and Im still driving it. It would be nice to have better fuel economy and I never liked the plastic front bumper that could never be cleaned like new. Other than that, I could not ask for more in a vehicle. Ive never kept a vehicle this long but it still looks like new and runs great! When new, the transmission always had hesitation. A new one was placed in it at about 33,000 miles (under warranty) and that is what is in it today with no problems.

Mixed bag - 2000 GMC Jimmy
By Mixed Bag - March 13 - 2:43 pmBought the vehicle used for work. Gotta love those GM engineers! $800.00 for wheel bearing replacements every 30,000?!!!? Shoulda read up on the Edmunds Forum! Otherwise so-so performance. 4WD works well. Tight fit for a big guy. Milage for this type of vehicle is not too bad. Avg. 16 if I dont use the 4WD. I bought this based on my excellent experience with a 1999 Silverado, but I dont think Ill buy another Jimmy.

Excellent truck - 1997 GMC Jimmy
By matt - March 4 - 2:42 pmI like GM vehicles and have owned my Jimmy since new. I think it works very well up here in our Canadian winters. I have had to do some repairs to major components but very vehicle out there needs maintance and repairs. My guess is that the trucks that people are having trouble with was likely from people not having the proper maintance preformed. Overall I love my Jimmy. Its comfortable, great in snow, handles and brakes well. The a/c and all the options work just as they should. Fuel milage is fair, but if I was really looking for mileage I would drive a Chevy Cavailer. When I go to replace my Jimmy I will buy another GM SUV without a doubt.
