Overview & Reviews
This year the Windstar has been totally redesigned. The biggest news for '99, in addition to the completely new exterior and interior styling, is a left-hand sliding door. The second- and third-row seats are now on rollers for easier removal/interchangeability and the instrument panel has been redesigned for improved ergonomics. There's also a more powerful and cleaner-burning 3.8-liter V6 plus upgraded suspension, transmission, brakes and air conditioning components. New options include side airbags and a trick reverse sensing system.
- As the most recent minivan to undergo a major redesign, the Windstar is now king of safety and high-tech features.

Hello Ford? No Answer. - 1999 Ford Windstar
By bigdriver222 - May 30 - 2:00 amWith a new child we went looking for a safe and affordable minivan we could grow into. However 53,000 miles down the road I am ready to drop my Windstar like a bad habit. First problem was at 43,000 miles - a new transmission. Ford offered to help with 80% of the costs, still thats money you shouldnt have to shell out after 43,000 miles. Then 1,000 miles later the Rack and Pinion steering went out. $700 more dollars. Just yesterday the air intake system went. I would not buy a Ford again unless they offered a 10 year/100,000 bumper to bumper - on everything from light bulbs to engine block. Be afraid - be very afraid.

Never by Ford again! - 1999 Ford Windstar
By THARRY - May 13 - 2:00 amBought the van because of size and safety rating. It always has problems. The power doors work intermittently, the automatic headlights dont work, rattles. Best of all, I have to use premium to keep the pinging down.

"Breaking Wind"-star - 1999 Ford Windstar
By Thirty Something - May 1 - 2:00 amToday is emancipation day from my Windstar - truely an occasion for celebration! Never have I had the displeasure of owning a vehicle with more recalls, problems and strange quirks than this poor van. After reading the other reviews, I realized we would probably be considered one of the fortunate ones since our first major money repair didnt occur until @ 35,000 miles. Since then, Its been downhill. Believe me, I will shed no tears as I hand the dealer the keys once and for all to this "mystery machine".

Foreign from now on - 1999 Ford Windstar
By Norskie4 - March 26 - 2:00 amHave never owned a vehicle that wore down faster. Cheap build quality compared to foreign cars, seats looked worn after 6 mos, sheetmetal is flimsy and dents extremely easily. At 48k, had to replace cracked manifold, paint is peeling just like on the old GM cars, Ford just informs me it is out of warranty, and has no remedy..

Never buy a Ford again! - 1999 Ford Windstar
By tominVA - September 10 - 2:00 amBottom line...LEMON! Just had the Transmission repaired for $1,060 on a 4 yr old vehicle w/ 71,000 miles! Mechanic said they dont this kind of failure on cars with 140000 miles! Spent the holidays driving the 1988 Camry I gave to my Dad when I bought this van (it has 150000 miles!) Have expierenced multiple little problems with the electrical system, doors, and idler control motor. All of which dealers say they find no problems. Have been religious with maintenance/tune ups expecting this car would last 7-8 yrs. Im unloading this quickly and going back to a Toyota!

No more Fords!!! - 1999 Ford Windstar
By ExFordGuy - July 4 - 2:00 amTERRIBLE RELIABILITY. Numerous recalls, intake valve problem, 3 batteries in 3 years, electrical short, power doors broke 4 times, noisy engine, towed 3 times because it wouldnt start. All this and the car is kept meticulously in our garage. It only has 28,000 miles. It will be our ex-car soon!

Windstar is Bad News - 1999 Ford Windstar
By Mike Harper - June 29 - 2:00 amThe Windstar is the wordt vehicle I have ever owned. Ford has really designed and built a stinker and will not stand behind this piece of junk.
