Overview & Reviews
Ford boosted output on the 3.8-liter V6 from 155 to 200 horsepower. Trim and equipment have been revised, and four-wheel disc brakes come with traction control or the tow package. A new integrated child safety seat has been added to the options list. Tune-ups happen every 100,000 miles. Traction control is now optional.

Not a bad little van at all - 1996 Ford Windstar
By Mrsnspectr - August 2 - 2:00 amPurchased in 2001 and have put about 11,000 miles on it with no problems. I was worried because I had read that many Windstars, mostly other years, were bad for blowing head gaskets, but we havent had a bit of trouble out of it, and we have made several out of state trips. We also have a DJ/Karaoke business, and when we remove the rear seat, our equipment fits perfectly.

Good Van - 1996 Ford Windstar
By windstarok - July 29 - 2:00 amWe purchased our Windstar new in 96. Just before the 36K mile warranty ran out, I had 2 minor items fixed (tailgate struts and a side-view mirror) I had the transmission fluid and filter replaced at the dealer and the trans checked out a-ok. About 2 months later (after the warranty ran out) the transmission failed. Upon reviewing my case and service records Ford readily paid 90%. This was the only problem until 85K miles(EGR and Oxygen sensor) and at 90K with a cracked engine sub-frame (odd). Ive spent $900 in repairs (except routine maintenance)& 3 weeks in the shop for 6 years and 90K+ miles on a van that I saved $4,000 off a Honda or Toyota.

Wind96 - 1996 Ford Windstar
By woodfyr - March 18 - 12:02 pmThis has been an excellent road car. Long trips are a norm (+300 miles). A pleasure to drive, excellent handling with plenty of power on hills and for passing. Great tow vehicle for 1000 lb. camper trailer. Stable under all conditions. 22 mpg (16 mpg with trailer).

By tony - February 27 - 9:59 ami first looked up reviews.but i disagree with what was stated.i havent heard all the sounds(roars).also the 3.8 engine is strong and dependable.i dont know who drives and rates these vehicles but i believe they must have been having a bad day or they just dislike ford.i love my van.it handles great looks great.i suggest they hire some new reviewers, then re review this vehicle.
