Overview & Reviews
This year the Windstar has been totally redesigned. The biggest news for '99, in addition to the completely new exterior and interior styling, is a left-hand sliding door. The second- and third-row seats are now on rollers for easier removal/interchangeability and the instrument panel has been redesigned for improved ergonomics. There's also a more powerful and cleaner-burning 3.8-liter V6 plus upgraded suspension, transmission, brakes and air conditioning components. New options include side airbags and a trick reverse sensing system.
- As the most recent minivan to undergo a major redesign, the Windstar is now king of safety and high-tech features.

Never again - 1999 Ford Windstar
By PPenuela - July 29 - 2:00 amVery dissapointed. Engine problems at 72.000 miles ($900). At 75.000 the Engine light is on again. It was fixed for $1100. Just this week at 75.200 miles, problems with the steering wheel, another $400. My first American car and the last one. I am going back to Japanese cars.

Beyond Good - 1999 Ford Windstar
By Rodriguez - February 9 - 2:00 amThis mini van is nice and comfortable for the whole family. Great for long trips. I got up to 600 miles to the tank on long distance. Need more pep small engine for heave cargo. It has 3.8 Liter, 200 hp, 26 gallon tank. I am some what happy, but theres room for improvement. Local mpg I only get 400 miles to the tank.

No more Fords!!! - 1999 Ford Windstar
By ExFordGuy - July 4 - 2:00 amTERRIBLE RELIABILITY. Numerous recalls, intake valve problem, 3 batteries in 3 years, electrical short, power doors broke 4 times, noisy engine, towed 3 times because it wouldnt start. All this and the car is kept meticulously in our garage. It only has 28,000 miles. It will be our ex-car soon!

Windstar is Bad News - 1999 Ford Windstar
By Mike Harper - June 29 - 2:00 amThe Windstar is the wordt vehicle I have ever owned. Ford has really designed and built a stinker and will not stand behind this piece of junk.

Ford has work to do on their cars/vans - 1999 Ford Windstar
By Mike McGinnis - August 8 - 2:00 amThe windstar is a sharp vehicle inside and out. However, the recalls, windows leaking air down the road, very noisy and squeaky brakes tend to drown out the enjoyment of driving a sharp vehicle. The power door seems to never close properly, always having to give it an extra push or pull to get the door ajar light to go off!

Avoid Ford -- especially this one - 1999 Ford Windstar
By fixed_or_repaired - June 21 - 10:00 amWere 3 months from end of 3 year lease and want to return it now; 38000 mi, leased at 15000/year. Broke again last week. $2 spark plug, $167 fix; took vehicle into leasing dealership every scheduled maintainence. Ford replaced entire transmission; leaving a parking lot, transmission died. mechanics found lots of "ground up metal"; theyve replaced steering column twice, most of the front suspension twice, plus an innumerable HOST of "minor" problems (rear heater control died, mechanic said "due to some bare wires"). The rear window has a low frequency rattle; the steering now has a dead spot after they "fixed" it twice. After 35 years, Ive bought my last Ford.

Buy something different - 1999 Ford Windstar
By Lee Vines - May 4 - 10:00 amI will not buy another Windstar unless I read reviews that tell me otherwise. We have spent too much repairing this used vehicle since purchasing less than one yr. ago. Intake system ( $600). Rack and Pinion???($650.) Vacuum lines ($150.) Now the passenger window will not roll up and and it acts like it is going to cut out while idling. Same symptoms as when we spent money on intake system.
