This Year's Model Updates:

The new model year brings a handful of changes for the Mustang. V6 models can now get the Pony Package, which includes an upgraded suspension with larger stabilizer bars, 17-inch wheels, ABS, traction control, foglamps and unique trim. The GT gains two additional wheel options, both 18 inches in size, complemented by unique suspension tuning. An additional darker aluminum interior trim upgrade package is now available.

Pros:
  • Solid V8 power in GT models, about as well mannered as a car with a solid-axle rear suspension can get, slick retro interior, good cabin ergonomics.
Cons:
  • No side curtain airbags or stability control, seats could use more lateral support, low-grade interior plastics.

The Mustang GT is a great car at a great price. It looks and SOUNDS great. Although the interior is a bit sparse and lacks high-end features, the build quality is the best I have seen in an American car in the past 15 years. I have a long commute to work and I look forward to getting in to this car every day. It’s just plain FUN to drive. People approach me in parking lots and gas stations all the time to tell me how great the Mustang looks and sounds, it’s pretty cool. :-)

I purchased my 2006 GT convertible used from a dealer. It was 11 years old with only 22,800 miles on it. I had to see it to believe it. It was so beautiful. Black with red leather interior. I purchased the vehicle on site after a test drive of course. This is my 4th mustang and my third convertible. I am addicted to the mustangs. This model does remind me of my 1969 Grande coupe I had. The lumbar support is a definite improvement for the lower back on this 2006 GT premium. This was a problem in my previous mustangs for longer trips over an hour or so. The pick up in acceleration is fantastic. I agree Ford should cut back on the plastics in the interior because it cheapens the vehicle. I have a shaker 1000 system and it sounds really good. The cd player is garbage. The first cd I placed in it got stuck. I get plenty of looks and compliments all the time on her. This is a good cruiser car and the family and I enjoy the ride tremendously. Top down rolling down the highway is so soothing and therapeutic. I had a 2002 convertible and 2004 convertible and using the convertible top is a breeze on these newer models than the previous models. The top seems to completely fall into place without effort and you just lock it down with the lighter handles. I would have been great to have power passenger seat. I believe the passenger seat is too low and should have a power package or at least a manual lever to raise the seat or lower the seat and give lumbar support. The rear seats seem comfortable enough. For a convertible, it is roomier than the Mercedes, jaguar and camaro. The camaro does not compare. If you really look around, you can see more variations of mustangs by mustang owners than camaros. If you have a mustang, you can almost totally redesign the mustang to your personal needs with all the parts and accessories the market have available for mustangs. These have been very reliable. The previous fox body styles, 1999 - 2004 did have this seal leak between the transmission and engine that was annoying after about 90,000 miles and it was not a cheap fix. I am praying these new mach 1 body styles do not such flaws. I have noticed though, the a/c in my older models got colder quicker was much colder. I saw a comment to the opposite so I am not sure why this is. I have had an 02 and 04 and you could freeze to death in there with the a/c on max. Over all, good price for a fun and reliable vehicle.

  • Best decision I ever made! - 2006 Ford Mustang

I absolutely love this car! Excellent performance with decent gas mileage. Ride is much smoother than I expected with the live real axle. The front seats are very comfortable, with lots of legroom for my 62" frame. Excellent sound from the engine and exhaust, both inside and out of the car. Draws lots of attention, especially with the opposite sex. The cupholders are in a stupid place; if you have something in them and you go to shift, you hit the cup with your elbow. And the steering wheel needs to be telescoping; with the seat moved back in a comfortable position, its impossible to reach the top of the steering wheel unless you incline the seat back almost straight up and down.

I bought mine 4/17 with 98K. Have been wanting a V6 5-sp, 05-09 vintage for years. The engine is fine. Sounds good. Great mileage. Good power. I pride myself on smooth take-off and gear changes, but this is the orneriest transmission Ive ever used! The difference between idle and 4000 rpm is about 1/8" on the gas pedal, so starting-out without either stalling or way over-revving takes a LOT of finesse. Gear changes are very difficult to master smoothly without lurching. The ride is very harsh with a lot of road noise, which I suppose goes with a quasi high-performance car. My 01 S-10 is quieter and smoother. All that said, its a smokin hot looking car, and still fun to drive. This was the first-off of the modern Stangs. Hopefully these problems have been ironed-out since.

  • Wow, is this a Ford? - 2006 Ford Mustang

What a car! Start with the exterior. Our car is satin silver and she stands out from the crowd. We choose the 18 inch optional wheels and it is hard to walk by without taking a second look. The interior with the upgrade package is really sharp. Extremely comfortable seats and the driving position is perfect. The retro accents inside along with the modern quality and feel really make this car special. Then there is the engine. Lots of power with instant throttle response. I had the mindset of an aftermarket exhaust system before I bought her. Glad I didnt buy anything. This car rumbles and sounds mean! It has been a pleasure so far and cannot wait to get back in her.

I cant think of a better combination of style and performance for a daily commuter. The auto transmission is fantastic, it was something I was leery of coming from a stick shift for the last 13 years. If you are thinking about a Mustang dont think twice, jump on in.

Outstanding performance/style. Best value if into fast/good looking cars. Pros: Style, power, sound (engine and stereo), and cost. Cons: Five speed manual shifts smoothly, but has a harmonic rattle near the shifter. Maybe just a loose bolt. One minor rattle near drivers mirror area. Owned car 2 months/4200 miles. Stats: -MPG:22-23@65++ mph, 90% highway. City; maybe 19-20. -all available options included (except 1K speaker system). 500 watts more than enough. -All options work, no issues. -No mechanical/electrical problems at all. Summary: I flew Navy jets off carriers for years. I wanted something hot, fast, powerful and reliable. I chose very well. Happy with 23mpg. Recommendation: Buy one/have fun.

This car is so much fun to drive I have to constantly tell myself to slow down. Car demands respect and gets plenty of looks from other people. My wife didnt like it until she drove it. She now wants to take the car whenever she can and punch it at green lights.

My new Mustang GT is a REAL Head Turner! I threw on Basani exhaust, (WOW) and 20 inch Zanetti wheels and tires and this car gets LOTS of compliments. It is a blast to drive, and it is a real head turner. Legend Lime Green Gold is an awesome awesome historical color. Cant buy this one from me...it is not for sale!
