Overview & Reviews
The Freestyle is an all-new crossover wagon from Ford. Built on a Volvo platform, it incorporates the Swedish brand's safety and all-wheel-drive technology, while offering six- to seven-passenger seating capacity.
- Truly roomy seating for six passengers, plenty of cargo space, balanced ride and handling characteristics, lengthy list of safety features.
- So-so acceleration, some low-grade interior materials, no stability control or navigation system.

interior fit and finish needs work - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By mark hatmaker - May 24 - 2:56 pmWe replaced my wifes 01 Volvo S-40 with the new Freestyle. we strongly considered an XC-90, but considering the cost and features, and the maintenance costs of the Volvo, excessive to say the least, the Ford won us over, being based off the S 60 platform. Ford has a winner this time around, although not without some areas that could be improved. The interior fit and finish could be better, Ive noted several gaps in the dash panel, A-pillar area, switchgear, especially the power mirror switch on the top left of the drivers door; looks like a last minute addition, plus it takes too much reach to safely adjust while driving. And Id prefer a hand operated emergency brake. Overall the interior looks cheap.

I love my new Ford Freestyle - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By Donna - May 11 - 6:56 amVery comfortable and very spacious. Lots of leg room in second row seating for my 64" spouse. Love the theater row seating. Captain seats make it easier to get from the second row to the third row of seats. DVD a big plus. Cargo space is great - plenty of room for our dog to travel with us. Sound system is good. Love the exterior look. Rides more like a car than an SUV or minivan. Gets better gas mileage than previously owned SUV and minivans.

FORD FREESTYLE SEL FRONT WHEEL DRIVE - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By 2005 ford freestyle - March 30 - 5:56 amIf youre looking for interior space without having to take the seats out, this is the car. Very comfortable, folding front seat is a plus. Im getting 22.3 mpg average. The CVT trans gets a little getting use to. The "coasting" after you attain your speed is different in that you dont have to keep your foot on the gas to maintain your speed. Can go over the speed limit quite easily. Good car!

By Ron - March 28 - 8:13 amGreat mileage, plenty of room and really a pleasure to drive. On a long highway trip I got about 25 MPG. The CVT transmission is amazing, almost feels like you are driving an electric car.

Best car Ive owned! - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By webbcam - February 15 - 9:13 pmIve owned Explorers, Expeditions and various Mazdas. This car is near perfect. Great handling, good pickup, smooth, and comfortable. I cant believe that Im getting 21 mpg driving in the city. The third row with the theater style seating is perfect for the kids and the availability of the safety canopy that protects all three rows is vital.

I love my 2005 SEL Freestyle! - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By Jackson - February 7 - 3:43 amThe Ford Freestyle is the most versatile vehicle Ive ever encountered. Its a combo of car, minivan, SUV & in my opinion Fords best kept secret. The ride is fun, smooth, responsive & handles solidly. The amount of room and storage in this car is amazing! The seating is comfortable, and spacious for 6-7. We recently went to a soccer tournament in UT; our Freestyle just zipped up and down the mountains with plenty of passing power. Not sure why others say theirs are sluggish? Was not sure the cargo space behind the 3rd seat was big enough but was pleasantly surprised. A full size cooler, soccer gear, luggage & a shopping trip to Costco fit with little effort. Ford Family Plan awesome!

Nice Mix of Size, Function, Fun - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By NC Dad of 3 - February 4 - 7:03 amThe Freestyle is well-positioned between and traditional station wagons and SUVs. I needed a 4-door car to carry around my three sons and all their sports gear, but at the same time be economical for an everyday commute. The Freestyle has the room we need (including good storage behind the third seat) but is still rides and drives like a car. The fold down third seats are great, very easy to flip. Second row and front passenger seat fold flat for almost 10 feet of space. The 3.0L engine has plenty of pep, including with 5 passengers. Im averaging 20 MPG in the city. The only drawback I see so far is the "plastic- y" interior on the SEL, and a mediocre quality sound system. Great car.

nice all around vehicle - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By David - January 16 - 6:40 am10" longer than a Explorer; you can see the difference in interior room (leg room front and back noticeable bigger). Gas mileage 19 to 20 city, 23 to 24 highway. If you have a heavy foot the city mileage runs 17 to 18. No problems at all. The ride and handling is better than a minivan. Very little body lean around 90 degrees turns.

This is a great vehicle! - 2005 Ford Freestyle
By jrtexas - December 13 - 10:50 amWe were very fortunate to get a great deal on this Pueblo Gold SE FWD. After 2 weeks of ownership we are thrilled with the comfort, interior roominess, style and ease of driving. Gas mileage looks like its in sync with the EPA estimates. Acceleration and power is great; no problem with the engine or CVT drive. Whats not to like?
