This Year's Model Updates:

Raising the bar for compact vehicles, Ford is offering its stability system -- called AdvanceTrac -- on ZTS Sedans and ZX3 Hatchbacks. Ford has also made previously optional features standard equipment. Highlights include a driver armrest on every model except LX and power windows on SE Sedans and Wagons. SE Wagons also get the Zetec engine as standard and can be ordered with a manual transmission. A new manual moonroof is offered on the ZX3 and new 16-inch wheels are standard on ZTS Sedans and optional on ZX3 Coupes.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful and large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, good selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:
  • Lots of suspension movement, not enough low-end grunt, polarizing styling.

  • Great buy! - 2001 Ford Focus

I have really enjoyed my Focus ZTS. I have had it almost one year. When I purchased it the car had 7,000 miles. The only problems that I have had is the trunk releaselatch has had to worked on 3X and the turn signal has been worked on 2X. I am tall and it is very comfortable. The gas mileage is excellent. I am glad that I bought my Focus ZTS.

After owning a Nissan Sentra (a lemon) this car is a joy to own and drive. Responsive, reliable, and all around, a great car. Tons of storage, lots of get-up-and-go, and a good price all led me to buy the ZX3. I never though I would own a domestic nameplate (Id always owned Mitsubishi, Honda, or Nissan) but his Ford has changed my way I think about Ford Motor Company.

Wanted a station wagon & bought the Ford Focus EXPECTING good gas MPG. The car is noisy to drive due to the wheel well being inside rather than in the trunk. The average MPG has been 25mpg. The plastic fittings inside the car are working loose. Dealer "cant find anything wrong" & said the car gets 40mpg...did "explain how their computer does MPG". NOT pleased with car nor Dealer. Ford does GOOD trucks but NOT the Focus.

I put allot of milage on my car . More miles in a year than most people do in two . High milage or not this car has been a headache . I absolutley hate it . In between having to replace the o2 sensor not 1, or 2 times , but 3 . Having to have both rear window motors replaced twice. My quater window broke due to body flex, and why does a quater window cost more than a windshield anyways. My ac quit working right after my warrenty ran out.My radiator dumped all of its fluid out on a roadtrip. My power steering pump, and a few other things. Not to mention all the recalls this car has had its not worth what Im paying for it.

You couldnt ask to drive a better wagon fo the price. Powerful, responsive yet silent engine. Remarquable driving experience, in particular on city streets and highways. The cabin has plenty of room, and is very comfortable. Honestly, I dont know what else could have done Ford to make this car better for the price. Considering all the instruments and gadgets this automobile ha, I rate it 9 or 10 across the board.

  • 170,000 miles on it - 2001 Ford Focus

Just sold my ZX3 after 7 years, 170,000 miles. Fun, fun car to ride however, it has truly been unreliable pretty much from day one. Calipers, fuel pump, catalatyic converter, wheel bearings $500 dollar repairs 5 months in a row escape a few months and starts all over again finally sold. When running (second to none) on fun factor but not without cost.

  • Focus SE fun & cool WHEN not in service - 2001 Ford Focus

I really wanted to like this car, it fits what I need to fit in it, and it is fun to drive. My hubby liked his, though he never bothered to fix some minor quirks. Unfortunately, mine has been in the shop TOO many times! The service light kept coming on for various reasons causing 4 return visits within the 1st 1.5 months & several since. The seatbelts broke in the back, the CD player ate my CDs. I traded in my van for this because I needed dependability, wondering if I should have kept 1997 van. Anyone interested in a class action /lemon law?

  • Pain in the rear - 2001 Ford Focus

I have had my car now for 4 years and the first year I loved my car. Now, I am deathly affraid to drive it. It makes so much noise I think that the tires are going to fall off. It is leaking oil and coolant. Had many problems with the windows not working, and the doors not wanting to open from the outside. The inside latch to release the trunk doesnt work ( I cant remember when it did). But I am so upside down in this car it is hard to find a non-Ford car to buy.

I am 350lbs and I am totally comfortable in this car. Great mileage and fun to drive. One of the most powerful 4cyl, 120ish horsepower engines ever made. Total thumbs up for me.
